I have never seen that particular play run when the ball carrier has the defense around him. I've always seen it where he runs as far away from them as he can in the end zone, to the far corner, and if anyone gets within 5 yards he steps out of bounds. I have literally never seen it where anyone could even lay a hand on the guy.

What's really sad is a safety doesn't beat you. 

Even with no timeouts, pull your offense to the sideline and take eleventy billion delay of game penalties.  What does it hurt?
