This would affect us with Mikka. Of course the NCAA is going to fuck it up.

Everything I can find on it points to him likely being cleared to play for us. This rule focuses on players that had a "professional focus", were enriched beyond what a typical hs recruit can be (i.e. getting paid above and beyond what one would reasonably need for food and housing), or has had multiple years playing professionally. None of that really fits here. He only played about 6 months for the Belgrade team and he maintained a  "clear educational and nexus intent" outside of that single season. If anything, he might just have to repay some amount or sit  a few games if it's decided he received money in excess of a cost of living expense.

the school has already put up an initial $400k for the buyout. another installment of up to $1 million will be due according to his draft position after this season but i can't find exactly who will be responsible for that. if he went from europe straight to the nba the team that drafts him would pay it.

I'm wondering if there's private assurance of a two+ year commitment to Arkansas? Seems like a lot of money to blow in addition to probably some NIL on top of that. Kid should be a massive ratings hit for us though. So that alone could be worth it in certain circles. I don't think we have to worry about him gettng cleared it would be monumentally dumb of the NCAA to do that (that's what I'm worried about).

richmond, as expected, will return. word is thomas got a late 1st deal and is gone.

they have to commit one way or another by 12:59 pm wednesday night.

When they were talking Thomas at 29 or 30, I thought we might have a chance. Lately it's been 25-30. Supposedly 2 teams have given him draft guarantees, so he's gone.

that would be between $4.7 to $5.1 million guaranteed. arkansas isn't going to give him anything close to that and i bet cal told him to go get paid to practice his game for the next two seasons and get that option year.

DrMongoose

How can a team give him a draft guarantee? (Just curious)

handshake deal that the team will draft them with one of their picks at a certain spot if the player is still available. in return the player agrees to certain things, usually not working out or sharing medical records with other teams.

jwill got one from okc and thiero did the same with the lakers in last years draft.

Barton Fink

Thomas would very likely play his way into the lottery next year. Someone is going to get a '27 lottery pick in the mid-late 20s a year early. Not surprised he's getting a guarantee.

why take the risk of an injury, jsj and toure being really good and taking minutes, or just having a bad season? too many variables to walk away from money  on the table imo.

Yep. I'm guessing he probably has a $3MM deal on the table from Cal but it won't be enough to keep him out of the draft.
The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

payboards are saying the staff is going to sign another contributing big man, not a project. if thomas stays in the draft there's more than enough money.

Didn't want him back anyway  :sarcasm:
