Yes, this thread was needed.

Just by playing all the home games in Fayetteville in 2022, Arkansas jumped in the FBS attendance rankings.

Arkansas attendance averaged 73,155 in 2022, vs   65,284 in 2021.

A jump of 12.06%.

I haven't looked in a while, what's going on with the golf course?

Is it a park? An overgrown field?  Cordoned off post-apocalyptic wasteland?

Arkansas didn't need the death penalty.  We had JEFF LONG.

If the goal is to  move up in attendance rankings, should we keep the game in Jerry World?

buff2.0

Our attendance went up because we played in a stadium that allowed more people to... attend?

Since the schedule is changing in 2024, and our contract for JerryWorld is set to expire that same year, I wonder if that will mean we can get out of the deal a year early.  I would hope so, although that is aTm's year to be the home team.  Maybe the league will keep the game on the schedule as one of our rotating opponents to fulfill Jerry's contract.l.

And what prize do we win by increasing our attendance numbers?  And don't say money.  The football program has plenty of money.

Is wms gonna host more concerts or just be a venue for HS games
Yep. I'm not trying to be a dick about it. It could have lived. It didn't. Not by my choice. -Elvis

Mayor wanted to do low income housing. With a no bid kickback to supporters to develop it of course.

Not surprising at all, at least once his Top Golf plan for the SW corner fell through.

I'd like to see the numbers on maintenance expenses now versus the last year it was a golf course.  Every time I've driven by it's still been mowed and kept nicely, although greens maintenance (even shitty ones like WM) is pretty expensive compared to general mowing.  I still imagine that the difference in maintenance expense is less than the amount of revenue lost from green fees, cart rentals, etc.

I don't really care much one way or the other about playing in WMS, but I also am not sure increasing our average attendance figures is a reason to take a game away from there.

They should just tear wms down. It's a waste and make it into a park or expand the zoo or put in a top golf there

It serves a purpose for municipal purposes, games with UCA/ASU, HS games, etc.

It's just past time to quit playing Ark games there.

That being said for a very, very long time attendance would dictate playing the games in LR instead of on campus. It was a big deal when we finally had more seats in Fayetteville than LR after the big expansion.

but how much is upkeep for a few HS games a year? Is it worth it to the city? I'd think not. Surely it needs major repairs at this point

I don't think they spend much on upkeep

Not much, really.  Just stop wasting money adding new stuff like press boxes, seating, etc.  Just leave it alone and patch it until you can't.  Plenty of urban stadiums like this that are similar.

DirkPiggler

Unless something has changed recently the city doesn't own the stadium.  It belongs to the state department of parks and rec, or whatever the related entity is called these days.

The city owns the rest of the park.
