Auburn was a yard away from going up 17-0, then the refs took over. There's no defense of Auburn not scoring a single point in the 2nd half, so we agree there. But if there was ever a game where the box score doesn't match the game, this was it.
Auburn was penalized 110 yards, had a db thrown out for targeting on a bullshit call, and had a clear TD called a fumble. Georgia got away with an obvious targeting call as well, and Kirby was calling phantom timeouts to stop the snap clock at :01. Suprise! Georgia converts.

The box score wont tell you all of that, which is why I asked.

I know there was a controversy about whether he broke the plane and the replay, but otherwise reading about this, it sounds really fucking familiar as far as the game situation and result.

 

Auburn was up 10-0 on favored Georgia and thought they were about to make it 17-0 late in the second quarter, when quarterback Jackson Arnold took the ball on third-and-goal from the 1 and attempted to dive over the pile into the end zone.  But the ball was poked out and ruled a fumble. A lengthy video review -- in which it certainly could have gone either way -- upheld the ruling, leaving Auburn coach Hugh Freeze apoplectic on the sideline. The Tigers never scored again as Georgia reeled off 20 unanswered points to seize the game.

Was just talking to a friend who played at Memphis.  He said the kicker needs to pick the fattest fucker out there and kick the shit out of the ball right at him.  Either the guy will have good hands or it bounces off of his pads.

For years, I've wondered why teams don't try this all the time. I think it might work more often than the traditional on-side kick that everyone is ready for.

Agree. I've always wondered the same. Especially when teams pack one side.

I think it would actually be very difficult to hit a specific person from 10 yd away, actually further if they're not directly in front of you.

When an on side kick is expected, they usually stack to one side. Typically 2 deep. I think the odds of making contact are pretty good.

I bet the current strategy is less than 10% successful.
