I don't know who needs to read/hear this. I don't know how many old eyeballs are on this post but if any of the old admins and old posters read this I just want to say thank you for paving the way. There have been so many thru the years, many of the names I've forgotten. A few of those guys didn't care much for me and that's ok. I'm friends with many others on facebook and twitter. The ones that hate me can fuck themselves, but thanks nonetheless. That being said the past is in the past. Many of these members are welcome to come back, some not so much.

We've lost a lot of our liberal leaning members and that is regrettable. Clearly it's the one criticism of the board that people do need to take to heart. P&R as I recall was always rough on people. As far back as I can remember it was mainly rough on whomever was deemed a dumb ass newb. It wasn't so much that you were this or that...it was that your ass was stupid and people were all too glad to let you know it. That's the tradition of woopig that will not change. Ok we may soften up a bit, certainly we need to be more accepting that not everyone thinks the same way. As I see it anyone that can bring an intelligent take to the forum will be accepted regardless of which way it hangs.

These days an administrator on woopig is not all that eventful. In olden times we needed a fairly large group monitoring and sorting out the retards. We would put up The Snorting News...I think Shoat put that together if I'm not mistaken. Twitter and the rest of social media made that basically pointless. The front page that nobody saw had a lot of content. Steve and others put a good deal of effort into that and it just wasn't seen.

I find it interesting who's signing up...who's participating. I don't know what our numbers were before .net's sunsetting...but it certainly felt like participation was falling off. I think what we are seeing is we have a lot of lurker types which we already knew but that they are coming back and getting a handle says something about this place. We want to continue to improve and build. A blank canvas gives license to things that previously probably wouldn't have been tried or paid attention to. We have posters putting together new threads that we all know are going to be mega threads in a couple years. Likewise we have a lot of nuanced threads being created filling up the board with new topics and new conversations. I was worried people wouldn't know what to do without the old shit clogging up the board.

Luckily we had some folks step in and get it handled. This stuff isn't plug and play...you have to kinda know what the heck you are doing on the back-end. It's not a couple hours and a pint of beer and damn sure isn't when things get sunsetted without anyone knowing it's coming...

I would imagine a good many of us including me have come to a point where we've lost interest in the board. Some go away for good, some take a sabbatical for a few months. Anywhere where was I...I love all you sumbitches.

One disappointment I have about losing all the old data: the "movies, books & TV" forum.

I am intentionally late on watching/binging old TV series and movies.

It was sort of a guilty pleasure to search those 8-10 year old series and read them as I took in each season for myself - a very satisfying way to learn what people were thinking as those episodes, etc. were being released.

All gone now. Too bad.

How ironic that he threw politics at you.  You are one of the most balanced posters on there, as evidenced by the fact that you have been called out by both sides.

I don't want to take sides on this because I like Steve.  But the way he's handled this is not a good look.

There's no grand conspiracy of posters leaving Woopig.... or message boards in general because of mean posting.  I'd say it has to do more with general stupidity that gets posted simply getting old after a while.  Old men and old women are the ones everyone wants to get away from at the family dinner when they go out on the porch and start ranting.  Did you anxiously await your uncle's forwarded emails a decade ago? 
There seems to be a sentiment that a lot of posters are gone that many people here "miss".  Did you miss them because they were dullards... or because they brought good takes?
People get bored of the dumb stuff and the personal attacks.  I personally grew bored when I realized how incredibly myopic the football takes here could be.... just like they were in P&R. I mean, this is a sports board and the posters are supposed to at least know something about football, right?  Coincidentally, it's a lot of the same people with dumb sports takes as political takes.  The old, old Woopig would have seized on that dumbness. 
 
I'm still here... so I'm just like you, posting my stupidity.  I think I just realized that I wasn't dropping any brilliance here and that was a pompously stupid notion on my part. 

A tremendous amount of guys here never figured that out... or are so invested in their fake ass "persona" that they NEED this board. I discovered I don't.  I personally really like a bunch of people that post here but I just skim past the stupidity now like I move on past the monkeys flinging shit at a zoo.  People aren't engaging because they are "scared".  They just realize that it's not very interesting to watch that part of the zoo unless you're just drunk and wanting to stir the monkeys up.  That's why the few non MAGA people that drifted in to P&R came precisely to stir shit, I'm guessing.   

I'm glad Woopig isn't dead yet.  Viva la Woopig.  It would be nice if we could somehow maybe tamp down some of the stupidity though and the fairly obvious racism/sexism/unAmericanism that has driven a ton of good posters away.  Be interesting and people will join you on the porch.  That's what old Woopig was.

agree with all this but let's not forget old woopig back in the day was a much bitter and angry board than now.

Also, I think message boards are a bit of a dying breed. With so much other stuff out there now...however I like it for passing the time during the work week. I'm also not like the young kids or my fucking 60 year old coworker who wants to sit on tik tok all day. I would rather sit on here to pass the time than that dumb Shit

I only post dumb shit. I figure if I can make someone smile, I have done something good. Also, you can sometimes get good info on here. Not financial or political, but repair, or maybe if you are in the market to buy something and someone has experience with it. And sometimes, the board makes you think. I don't let anyone get under my skin, and if I don't like what somebody posts, I pass by it. In other words, this message board helps me pass time, but in no way controls my happiness, or life. I enjoy it. That is why I am here. And I have met some of the guys on here (you included) and the ones I have met, seem to be good guys, no matter their political affiliation or religion. I have my life, and I control it (along with God). I don't let others dictate my life. But,I am glad the board survived and I am here. And I am old. But I enjoy a lot of the posts on here. So keep on keepin on.

Well, would you categorize my presence on Woopig these days as "heavy"?  I already stated that I personally like many of the people on here.  There is some decent non sports/political stuff thrown out once in a while.  People don't seem to take it as personal here and insult you if you have a different brand of car that you like.... or maybe want to learn about firearms.  Recruiting information is pretty nice.
