Tracking the anals of UA administrators, I had a cousin named John White and my grandmother was Alan Sugg's stepmom.  She didn't become his stepmom until she was about 60, so I doubt it was like in the movies.

John White was a cowardly piece of shit that enabled the institutional racism that existed at the upper levels of the Athletic Department.  He teamed up with Broyles to not only push Richardson in to a corner (we were still a regularly ranked team with a recruiting comeback happening) but then also helped feed the media stories that slanted to make Richardson look bad with boosters and everyday Arkansans, which of course our dumb fanbase, including on the web, just lapped up like pussies.

That all may be true, and I am no John White fan, but Nolan hurt himself in so many ways I don't think you can lay his departure on White.  Maybe the hiring of Heath, sure.

maybe not Nolan but it was at that point white meddled in athletics which he knew nothing about. Stan Heath hire was all him. Dana Altman running...all John white. He's the center figure in a hell of a lot of bad decisions for our athletics which he should have just left to the people that know athletics.


Maybe we should all go and write terrible reviews on Amazon for his stupid leadership book. That might be fun

He knows a little about his time at the u of a because we have discussed it

No, he lived between Wabash and Barton in Phillips County.  He was actually my Dad's first cousin but he son was Johnny White Jr, my second cousin.

I know you don't want to hear this and probably won't believe it, but while much of it was bullshit, some was also true.  Nolan was not squeaky clean.  I can give examples that did not come from Broyles or one of his mouthpieces if you like. 

Ironically pretty much all of the examples would be legal today excluding one big one that could have taken down the banner.  None were morally wrong, but all were against the rules at the time. 

The big problem from the Broyles/White end was that they forced Nolan and/or the boosters to stop doing those things once they came to light.  Recruiting got to the point where no coach could have kept us nationally competitive with those restrictions.

Ok, if that's what you want to believe fine.  Remember, I was alive at that time, and witnessed some of the events in real time.  Nolan was no saint.

Who ever said that Nolan was a saint?  This sounds like a P&R discussion with the "for me or against me" simpleness.    I was on campus during the glory years. I saw that money flow,  just like I have first hand accounts of the money and drugs that were flowing during Nutt and Petrino.  We're talking about SEC ball.

What I'm telling you is that John White used a complicit, lapdog media to feed a bunch of bullshit to the entire state about Nolan and his issues and laziness and uppityness and what have you.  Broyles was a racist and Nolan got tired of being treated that way, because he knew he didn't have to be treated that way after he accomplished what he accomplished.  Orville and McDonnell both had reached a point with age that they weren't afraid of Broyles anymore and weren't afraid to push against the spin.  Everyone else ran with the bullshit.  It persists to this day.
