He's also almost universally loved here and has a daughter in school at Fayetteville.  Apart from answering retarded questions from the state media, why would he bail.  I think he gets a $1.5 million retention bonus if he's still here in 2026 - just give it to him now if that helps.

I'd look at him similarly to Petrino, even though his departure would be of his own choosing.  Will always appreciate that he brought us back from the depths and showed a glimpse of what the program could be.

A bad season isn't going to get Muss onto the hot seat here, but a second one back to back would.  If he leaves now he resets his clock somewhere else with another 4-5 years.  Plus maybe the guy just gets bored staying in the same place for very long. 

As for whether it's time to move on, that would depend a lot on who he gets to replace Musselman.  Someone like Chris Beard could potentially elevate the program even further, if we're willing to pay up and accept the baggage.  He could be the Nolan to Muss's Eddie.

HY has been pushing for renovating BWA and needs $100M. This season and losing Muss squashes that. Also, Mrs. Muss is joined at the hip with the Hunt's which is another interesting dynamic to this.

The guy posting this has worked pretty hard to build contacts in college basketball.  His dad was fairly tied into AAU around here for a while as well.  I know he talks a lot to many of the main college basketball writers...guys like Jeff Goodman, Rob Dauster, etc. although I have no idea if they are where he's getting any of this. 

It could be bullshit, hopefully it is.  Not endorsing it as fact, but when there's this much smoke there is usually at least a little bit of fire attached.
