mallett himself said that he chose arkansas specifically because of petrino's offense. he was never going to play for nutt.

"After Mallett decided to leave Michigan, he also considered transferring to UCLA, Tennessee and Texas A&M. But Mallett chose the Razorbacks because of Petrino's pass-happy offense."

He threw a sideline fade to Childs against GA @ home for a TD that was absolutely perfect. I remember telling my wife we've never had a QB that could make that throw.

I remember that play. I knew from that day, we had something special happening for our football team.

98.5% of your posts are shit.  This one, however, is cool.  And the fact that you listen to any SXM station that she's on also makes you cool.

I have no doubt he said that after he actually transferred.  I have friends who know the family and had kids that were classmates (and teammates at Texas High) who were telling me different at least 3 months before Nutt was run off.  One of them was even a walk on in Fayetteville at the time.  Nutt's assistant coaches called him into their offices more than once to talk about Mallett because he was calling them.

And I have told the story publicly before-- Nutt never offered him a scholarship when he was a senior at Texas High.

I am in no way defending Nutt.  Just saying that there was a lot more going on than that interview captured after the fact.

Just thinking back on his time at Arkansas brings back so many good memories. For me, you can't top going to Athens and Mallett being a cold blooded assassin at the end of the game for the win, and watching him kneel down on the 1 yard line for the win vs LSU at the dump. He and BP made me feel like we belonged with the elite.

That is prime Nutt.  He knew Mallett wasn't considering coming here out of high school, so he didn't even offer him a scholarship.  Can't get turned down by the hot girl if you never ask her out.

That "Childs Please" game was awesome.  I've been to Athens for a couple of games and their fans were always cool.  That game, man, they were so gracious in defeat and talked about Mallett and Petrino.  Good times.

Not Petrino...they booed him pretty good when he came running out. Remember...the whole Falcons thing.

Quote from: Pighair on Jun 28, 2023, 10:26 AMI was listening. Nutt didn't insinuate anything. He flat out said "we had Mallet coming to arkansas but then Mustain committed and he went to Michigan". Wtf???  He followed that lie up with saying "we had him committed back to arkansas from Michigan all Petrino had to do was keep him committed". Those aren't actually quotes but it's the gist of what he said. He's absolute narcissistic scum.

Wish I could've stayed on to hear Petrino. Glad he corrected Nutt's lies.

I figured as much. I didn't hear Nutt but did hear Bazell speak on it later. Like I said, Nutt is a total pos.

Look, I dislike Nutt as much as anybody, but I think he was right when he said "we had him committed back to Arkansas" as I have explained.  Nutt definitely screwed the whole thing up by not offering Mallett a scholarship out of high school.  He never would have gone to Michigan if he had received an offer from Nutt.

Can't wait to hear Nutt's speech at the HOH deal.  :sarcasm: (If he gets to make one)
Well, shit...

I remember it, thought I remembered it well.  Was living in KC at the time and thought that game was at Georgia?

First year we played in Fayetteville and lost in a shootout. Won in Athens the next year.

Quote from: BleedinRed on Jun 28, 2023, 08:26 AMPetrino and Mallett were the best Coach/QB combo the Hogs have ever had.  Prove me wrong.

They had the same offensive mentality mentally better than almost any I have seen. As in, they thought the same without even having to verbally communicate.

Fuck Houston Nutt. He's a narcissistic POS. He'll ride coat tails of great players until he dies.

Bobby P and Mallett were made for each other. He brought us back into contention for an SEC championship. RIP Ryan

I'm really not intending to argue with you because I know you wouldn't bullshit us about what you heard or the credibility of those from whom you heard it.

But think about this for a second, knowing what we know about Nutt.  If he really had Mallett in the bag to come back here, do you not think that A) he would have bragged (no pun intended) about it incessantly to anyone who would listen or B) he would have used "I have an eleventy star passing QB transferring in from Michigan. MICHIGAN!" to avoid being fired?  Or that the dipshits in charge at the time wouldn't have bought into it and given him another two year free pass (transfer sit out year plus another year for Ryan to learn "the system")?

I know why.

Those were two supremes at the pinnacle of their game.  OUR game.

One is gone way too soon.

Ok, both were gone way too soon, but one in a terrible way.

My sister is down there and I called her as soon as I heard.  She said they had double reds up and popo riding the beaches telling motherfuckers to stay out of the water.

I trust her more than I do a news outlet.
