How could Tennessee be violating the NIL?

In other words, I thought everyone was violating NIL now and there are official organizations to do so.

I'm wondering more how Johnson vs NCAA plays out. Do former athletes essentially get to collect back pay and damages?

Also how does it play out now that the DOj joined the lawsuit seeking to do away with the ncaa transfer rules since it's an illegal restraint on athletes to sell their image and likeness and control their education.

though I'm struggling with coprophagia, fuck the ncaa with this NIL shit is going down. How do they co to ur to enforce shit now. It seems like a complete shit show and mess
Yep. I'm not trying to be a dick about it. It could have lived. It didn't. Not by my choice. -Elvis

The schools make up the ncaa, this is stupid.
The ADs whine to congress that they need to make rules cause the ncaa can't because they don't want to follow the rules the ncaa made that were approved by the schools who are members of the ncaa.
Oh, but they will follow the rules made by congress but not rules for the schools created by the schools, ok.
Check your damn blood pressure!

If you are looking for Katy bar the door moment...here it is.

That'll be enough for some schools that aren't making money to drop athletics

This actually might be the way forward.  If the kids can unionize, there can be a players' association that can negotiated for things like salary caps, NIL rules, and transfer rules.  That's how the NFL does it without an anti-trust exemption.

"Because Dartmouth has the right to control the work performed by the Dartmouth men's basketball team, and the players perform that work in exchange for compensation, I find that the petitioned-for basketball players are employees within the meaning of the [National Labor Relations] Act," the 26-page decision, reviewed by Front Office Sports, read. "Additionally, I find that asserting jurisdiction would not create instability in labor relations. Accordingly, I shall direct an election in the petitioned-for unit."

Why now?  For the most part going back 100+ years players have performed "that work" in exchange for compensation.  Sounds like former players are owed reparations.

It will also be the end of Title IX.  You can't discriminate against one group of employees for the benefit of others based on sex.

Actually, what I see happening eventually is that Big School football, basketball, and baseball will all be "professional" with separate rules and funding.  All other sports will be explicitly amateur and run more like D III sports are today.

It will mean fewer opportunities for most athletes men and women but it's where we are.

That is basically the same thing as saying the United States is governed by its citizens.  Technically it's true but in the reality of operation its far from it.

The larger conferences have outgrown the organization.  They should leave and form their own group, but don't want to lose that sweet NCAA tournament money for now. Schools like Dartmouth, Furman, UCA, etc should not have the power to dictate athletic policy to the schools whose athletic programs turn a profit.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.
