It really is a strange position for Arkansas fans to find ourselves in.  A coaching search was handled professionally from all sides, no one involved got fired, AND we upgraded?

All because SMU wanted a new coach.

That's advertisement, not the same has giving money to pay athletes. They probably wrote that off as a business expense.

Of course they did.  But it is still revenue for the athletic department.  That is what counts.

I have little doubt that Wal-Mart has created billionaires and millionaires similar to what happened with Microsoft, Apple, Alphabet/google, and Amazon. Now what's happening I figure is a lot of those ground floor billionaires and millionaires are old now and their offspring are essentially hedge fund babies that give zero fucks.

was just pointing out that nil is advertising, no different from walmart putting their logo in the stadium, and for companies that sponsor athletes, it's also a write off.

I believe that money would go to the athletic department, non NIL.  But remember, we have to fund both now.  My brother recently called me and asked me which I was going to donate to-- the AD or the Edge (NIL) thing. I told him both.  They both have to have money (not that I am a major donor to either, but every little bit helps).

Someone else made the point that there is a lot of money that comes from Walmart that is not directly with the Waltons, and that is a good point.  The Walker indoor practice facility is an example I believe.  I always heard the original Mr. Walker was an employee of Sam's and had some stock from the beginning that turned in to many millions.

The Whitaker family is another Wal-Mart family.  The north entrance in Bud Walton arena is named after them.  Pauline Whitaker was the cashier on the first day Sam opened the 5 and dime and rung up the very first sale.  Her husband was one of Sam's first managers.
