Quote from: DirkPiggler on Apr 11, 2024, 04:38 PMFrom watching some of our conferences plus a lot of the SEC media days stuff, it seems like Bob and his questions are kind of a running joke around the league.  He almost always gets the first question, even in league wide media events.  It's probably kind of like these high schools working together to let the kid with disabilities score a TD at the end of a blowout.

Unfortunately, he writes articles as well as anyone at the Dem-Gaz.

Hunter gets a star but I still think Tyson wanted cal to vet hunter and that would decide if he would take the job. Maybe also to see if hunter would ask the obvious question. Advise could be a phone call, but deface to face - there is more in play there.

While it does happen for head coaches to advise ADs, do you think Doug McMillion is asking a target exec for hiring advice?

Why would a head coach of a conference school give you a legit candidate who would make his job harder?

Muss on Rome had good things to say about Arkansas and hunter. Rome asked him about the buss video noting it was weird and all, muss took the high road and basically said hunter he talked after he had believed it was hunter teasing those saying he was leaving.

Muss and Rome are tight and Rome asked pointed and leading questions but he was very positive about Arkansas. Mentioned his mom never made it to a game here but she drove up from San Diego for the press conference. It did sound like Danyelle wanted out since their family meeting was quick when the SC job came up.

Hopefully, it is a win win for all parties.

Check your damn blood pressure!

The old boy network still exists.  Broyles and Royal recommended many coached for the SWC.  Everybody trusted them because they knew what the hell they were talking about.

In the 1970s, east of the Rocky Mountains, there were very few coaches hired at what where then "big schools" without a recommendation from either Frank Broyles, Darrel Royal, Bear Bryant, or Woody Hayes.  Look it up.  A large number of connections, however minor, through those four guys.

So now he's been upgraded from "pool boy" to lower case "hunter".  What does he need to do to get the "H" back?

RE: Coaches recommendations

Cal's formative coaching years he worked under Ted Owens (who is 94 and attended the hogs announcing Cal) and later Larry Brown at Kansas who no doubt is where he learned how to cheat like a pro. Danny Manning (and I'm sure some others of note) were brought in while Cal was an assoc assistant at Kansas. Anyway I think his time with Larry Brown is very note worthy because for much of the rest of his career Cal has conducted himself like Larry Brown. By that I mean he did what it took to win games. Yes I have no doubt he cheated his ass off for a good bit of it. I do think it speaks volumes when you have former players that mostly all fucking love you. That's what Cal brings. Muss has guys that love him but I don't know that it's at that level. Also like Larry Brown...Cal is this god father type that's known for offering opinions on prospective head coaches though his "tree" isn't impressive at all.

True

Funny, I only see the women teams, "throwing the A."

Gonna have to respectfully disagree.

It's not the least bit clever. Cal and call don't even sound the same. Saying out loud also sounds stupid.

The whole thing is cheesy as hell.

A good chunk of our fan base is already going to butcher his name (Cal-uh-PARR-ee instead of Cal-uh-PAIR-ee).

Now we're going to add in CALL-uh-PARR-ee and CALL-uh-PAIR-ee.

BleedinRed

Pretty sure that good chunk of our fan base will never be in a situation where pronouncing his name incorrectly matters.

Let's add, "Integrity goes a LONG way," to flushable "clever" phrases the Athletic Department has come up with.

I think we should let Randy Rainwater decide how to pronounce it for all of us.
