I think it was a vote of confidence from DVH to try and get him going. Sometimes that works. Didn't today.

Quote from: Son of Spam on Apr 14, 2024, 03:33 PMI don't think anyone has turned on them. It is just 1 series and we were due to lose some. But, reality is beginning to set in.

This.

I said a week or so ago that we were winning at an unsustainable clip and it would't be the worst thing to drop a game, series, or a few.

I don't think anyone is turning on this team, just that we have some legitimate issues on offense and seem to have overachieved thus far.

The fact of the matter is that our SEC record was somewhat inflated by the fact that we haven't played an overly difficult schedule yet. Mizzou, Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss are all dogshit, and have a combined SEC record of 14-44.

We'll see who this team really is over the next 5 weeks.

Teams have off weekends. Ask the defending national champs. I'm going to mark it down as that. If we have a couple more, I'll start getting concerned.

Let's not forgot, they went cold mid season last year and didn't even win the SEC.

We just need to stay good enough to lock down a national seed because we play much better at home than on the road.

The Faggies are now one game behind us.

I told you we peaked early. Time for a little swoon.

It's not the end of the world, but if we keep losing, you will be able to see it from where we are. Like someone said, let's see how we respond.
Well, shit...

Stop pretending you're a fan of the program.   We don't need you.

White has been better than expected, both at bat and behind the plate.
Helfrich may be the future at catcher, but he's not there yet.  He should be catching midweek games (in place of Rowlet) to get experience and at-bats.  He's not ready for SEC pitching. Also, our pitchers seem to struggle more with him behind the plate calling pitches.

Wilmsmeyer needs to sit, Edmondson and Holt both need more at-bats. I would have had White (either catching or as DH) in lineup over left-handed freshman Souza (who was 0-4 today), but I don't think DVH expected their lefty to go the distance.

Our bats sucked today. That's baseball. I'm still a fan.

We scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning of the first game with Bama. Since then, we've gone 24 innings without scoring more than 1 run in an inning. I hope Tech is our slump buster.

Well, we have already peaked so expect more of the same.

4 of our 5 losses have been away from Baum. Hopefully they learn to win on the road before June. Get a chance to work on it this weekend.

That concerns me a bit. We definitely play better at BWS than on the road. Even the Auburn series was tight, and they're cheeks.

We better lock up a top 8 seed.

Agree that we need a Top 8. Quick look at last years 8 National seeds shows that 5 of the 8 lost 3 series. The top 2 seeds lost two or less series. Only  one team lost 4 series and that was Stanford. If I remember correctly, it was a pretty controversial choice and most thought they were only selected because the NCAA wanted a national seed out west.

So, it seems that losing no more than 3 series is key. We still have road series against Kentucky and Texas A&M. I don't feel confident about winning those right now. So, the South Carolina series this weekend is huge.

It still kind of depends on how we do at home relative to everyone else.  The 2018 team lost every road series and was still seeded either fourth or fifth overall.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

I really want that series against the collie cuddlers. Not just because it helps right wrongs committed against nature, but it would mean we're rolling into the post season with a high stride and not a limp.

Interesting, that's good to know. I didn't remember that at all. I know there's a lot that goes into it, RPI, SOS, etc that I didn't mention. Our poor road record just stood out to me. Then when I saw SC, A&M and UK still left for road games, and the odds of us dropping those series, I decided to look and see what most National seeds did last year.

Either way, I hope we turn it around this weekend.
