Bottom of the ninth. Carter in to pitch.

Daly leads off. Runs the count full. Walks.  We have put the lead runner on a LOT tonight.

Nicholson takes strike one. Runner take second on indifference. Nicholson goes down looking . 1 away. Runner takes third without a throw.

McCarthy takes ball three on a wild pitch. Run scores from third. 10-2 Hogs. 3-1 count. Walks.

McCoy pinch hitting. Runner takes second. McCoy flies out to left. 2 away. Runner at second.

Burkes takes a strike, runner takes third on indifference. Singles to left center. Run scores. 10-3 Hogs.

Waldschmidt takes a strike and a ball. Runner moves to second, then third. Waldschmidt flies out to center.

HOS WIN 10-3!
Well, shit...

Doesn't count on indifference.

Quote from: Sus-Scrofa on May 03, 2024, 08:11 PMI think I figured Diggs out.

If first pitch is a ball, he'll do good.

If first pitch is a strike, he'll watch it and then the at bat will be a disaster.

Exactly what happened on his 2 run double.

First pitch was a ball high (wasn't close). 1-0
Second pitch was a slider way outside. 2-0
Next pitch was a fastball right down Broadway that he smoked into the gap.

Somebody will have to take over PBP tomorrow and Sunday. I will be watching on my phone.

Quote from: Pig Benis on May 03, 2024, 08:04 PMIs Nolan Souza hurt?

He's been quietly struggling in SEC play and has been undisciplined at the plate. He strikes out a lot. He's second only to Diggs in strikeouts in SEC games with far fewer ABs than the rest of the lineup (next closest is Aloy who has almost 30 more ABs).

Since the Ole Miss series he's been 3-25 with 13 K's in conference play.

Not saying the kid can't turn it around, but he's been quietly slumping and striking out at a high rate lately.

It was funny seeing the beerhats come out twice in their stadium.

Our baseball road game fans have been killing it this year.

Good sized crowds, audible hog calls on TV, etc.

It was great to see bats come alive against SEC competition. They just have to do enough and it'll give us a chance.

I thought about going to this series in Lexington and to hit a distillery or two but the area is flooded with Derby peeps.(yes , I know the Derby is not in Lexington but the hotels fill up nonetheless)

Also, we appreciate Hagen but not enough. He's having an unreal season. Of all the great arms we've had over the years, can't think of any I'd take over him. Kopps is closest but it's not a straight comparison.

He's our best ever, to this point.

Agreed. I've been struck by similar thoughts lately like "damn, I think I'm taking for granted how good this guy is."

He gave up 1 earned in 6 innings and his ERA went UP to 1.36. That's an incredibly low number this deep into the SEC slate. He's striking out nearly 2 batters an inning (1.86 per IP).

We've seen some great pitchers come through this program, but none have been better than Hagen. Ironically, my favorite memory ever of him hasn't been from a start, but making Roc Riggio take a knee with a with the bases loaded in the Stillwater Regional finals in 2022.
