Would be a great time for the bats to get hot. Any offense with our pitching should equal Omaha. Once you get there who knows.

We don't have enough pitching.

You're mourning Tygart, who we haven't been able to rely on all season?

How do we get to 27 quality innings?

Hizog

DVH managed Hagan's pitch count pretty closely throughout the season. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes a little deeper in the postseason depending on the situation.

Ideally, we could go into game 2 of Regionals and Supers with the nearly all of our bullpen in tact. It would especially help if we have a big enough lead in our Game 1's to save Gaeckle for Game 2 or 3.

We also had a lot of guys who DVH used for matchups, that could pitch longer if needed. Hewlett, Coil, Foutch and several others.

When's the last time Tygart has given us quality innings?

I posted this on another board, but If we're being honest with ourselves, Tygart hasn't been someone we can reliably count on much at all this season, and his command issues have gotten worse the last few months.

For Tygart, the delta between his season ERA (3.94) and his SEC-only ERA (5.40) is pretty significant, whereas Molina's is pretty consistent (4.04 // 4.50).

Here's some other Tygart stats:
  • He hit 15 batters, which is 28% of team total (nobody else has more than 7)
  • He issued the most walks (36)
  • He had the most wild pitches (7 — more than double anyone else on staff)
  • He had the fewest strikeouts of the rotation (69)
  • He had the highest opposing BA (.220)
  • He also gave up the most hits, most doubles, most runs, and most earned runs of our rotation

People seem to forget that when we made Omaha in 2022, Tygart was basically unusable by the end of the regular season and didn't see much meaningful action in the postseason. He got absolutely shelled in his limited appearances in Stillwater, and was hot trash in Omaha (faced only 2 batters in the 9th against Ole Miss and plunked both of them).

I'm not talking goddamned Tygart, Biggus. We don't have enough pitching.

I think the point is we've thrown some guys in matchup situations that can throw 45-60 pitches if needed. Our P staff is pretty deep even without Tygart

We have as much or more than anyone else.

Tygart has been injured all season.  It's the worst kept secret in all the universe.

Best team ERA in the tournament, and we don't have enough pitching?  Nice hill to die on, sport...

I am not worried about the pitching.  Van Horn is pretty damned good at managing that.  I wish he (and/or his staff) was as good with the hitting aspect of the game.

if only we had a paid coach on staff responsible for teaching proper hitting techniques and strategy.

Maybe we could even scout other teams pitching and pick up on tendencies to be prepared for.

Huh? Van Horn can't work a pen to save his life. Half the staff is hurt. I don't see any way we can find 27 quality innings somewhere. Hagan 6 or 7, Gaeckle a few, Foutch then the rest is just pray.

Congrats to the Hogs on finally breaking the curse and winning the CWS.

You expect every single inning to be quality? Something that's never happened in the history of the game at any level?

We need 27 immaculate innings dammit!

Lost in the HTL derpfest is the announcement that Molina is starting tomorrow.

He's hoping we get good Mason.

Thin Red Swine

It will be good only if he throws 93% strikes and allows no more than two baserunners in 6+ innings.
