Quote from: Cornhogio on Jun 03, 2024, 10:38 AMDo the analytics say that players shouldn't cut down their swings with two strikes anymore?  Our guys all seem to maintain the same loopy upper cut swing regardless of the count, situation, shift, etc.  I would love to have some guys that can cut down their swing and slap the ball through the left or right side, based on the shift.

I posted this earlier in the thread, but it's from a long-time and still current high school baseball coach who is in a position to know this first-hand...

"I've never been a fan of his approach. There's NEVER talk of adjusting at the plate no matter where runners are, no matter count, nothing. He just preaches, 'only take your best swing.'"

admittedly my lifetime on base percentage has been piss poor at best so I guess that leaves me out
"I got fired for using free speech" yea imagine getting killed over it

Tell us your great dipshit plan.

That hangover this morning must've sucked.

I wonder how many of our Ks were swinging at pitches out of the zone.

I noticed, early in the season, when our hitting was so bad, that nearly all of our hitters weren't watching the ball all the way into the bat. They seemed to be looking out in the field to where they thought the ball would go if they actually made contact. I got into one of those batting cages where you pick a speed, put some money in, and it pitches to you. I put it on fast. First time, I didn't hit a ball. I was looking to where I thought I was going to hit it. Next time, I focused on the ball all the way in and hit nearly ever pitch. We need a hitting coach.
Well, shit...

I'm thinking a couple of bottles of whiskey and tickets for a two-week cruise somewhere would do it.

Maybe. I am positive that I could do better than "take your best swing."

This is common in hitters in baseball and also golf. Pulling your head before contact because you want to see where the ball is going. Working on keeping the eyes on the point of contact, thru contact, is a habit that has to get relearned often.

We do that a lot.   It's a particular problem with Diggs post-injury.

Slavens used to do this often, flaring his head before contact and disrupting his barrel path.

Diggs does it all the time. Ditto for Aloy and Souza. Stovall had a penchant for it as well on those long loads and big cuts. Sandlot had a tendency to swing out of his shoes (he had several AB's this regional where he went to a knee).

"Keep your head in there and eye to the ball" is shit they're teaching in 8U.

I would much rather have him than a superstar like Tony Vealchop.

That's awesome. Like most, I flamed away at our guys for not being able to send this flop top to the showers early. The truth is he did a masterful job of mixing speeds with essentially one arm motion the whole time.
