We need some pitchers like Charlie Boyce on the roster.

- would help our hitters to face off speed in practice
- would help to have an off speed guy to throw in post season
- would be nice to have a guy who could eat some innings when needed

The shift in baseball to all power is nice, I guess, but it still comes down to the fundamentals- throwing strikes, putting the ball in play and playing defense.

What did all that launch angle,  velocity, and spin rate get us?

I hate LSU but those dudes are always playing ball at the end of the year old school style and it wins.
Check your damn blood pressure!

It did seem that a lot of our pitchers only had a fast ball. Tygart seemed to have a new pitch this year but couldn't control it. You can only throw fast balls at a team for about one time through the rotation.
Well, shit...

I'd take a team full of singles hitters if we can produce about 15 a game.

Just put the damn ball in play.

This. It got real tiresome when every announcer would spout that off like they were actually adding something worthwhile to the game. Maybe pull those stats out when one gets crushed to the next county, but when it barely clears the fence, I don't need to hear anything other than an update to the score (only because I'm probably a few drinks in at that point and can't be bothered to do math) and maybe the hitter's hr total for the season.

Quote from: The Whyte Boar on Jun 04, 2024, 02:42 PMSome light criticism of Dave is warranted.  But if we ran him off, he would probably take another job and win three championships in a row.  That would be very Arkansas.

Agreed.   Any coach is fair game for criticism.  But we have to keep things in perspective.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

Have you guys ever tried to play catch with someone who could really throw a knuckle?  We used to have this kid in legion who could do it and it would get so bad that you would want to go down and knock him up side the head to make him stop.
I had a cousin that could throw one. It was like trying to catch a butterfly.

I want to say it was Kopps a few years ago, but maybe it was someone else, who had a no-no thru 7 and DVH pulled him. I lost my shit in that game thread over that, and a few woopiggers couldn't understand my disgust. That's new baseball for ya.

That will always be DVH in a nuttshell for me. Stuck between the old game and the new, and insecure about which approach to take. And that insecurity is why he comes across lately as defensive in press conferences.

Phil and Bubba were talking on the radio about Tygart's new "sweeper" pitch early in the season.

My gut response was "oh great, another breaking ball he won't be able to locate."

In Arlington, when Smith had tied the game strikeout record,  it was the end of the 6th.

Dave didn't send him back out to face a single batter in the 7th, and also didn't give the fans a chance to give him a standing O. I hated that in the moment.

He could have easily set the record.  He was rolling.   At the very least give him one more batter so we could cheer for him.
I'm on smoko, so leave me alone.

DVH needs to go get some mens. He realizes that now.

We need some mens to hit a directional school junkball pitcher?

That's why DVH's "we need better athletes" rant in his last presser fell flat, acting like we just got mowed down by Paul Skenes.

Fire Thompson into the sun.

Nothing like realizing something in year 25 of a career.

Are we still close as Dave said a few years ago or is our time over?

I saw a quote during the regional, I think it was either from the K St coach or maybe SEMO. They said that they didn't want guys that played baseball, they wanted baseball players. DVH needs to get baseball players.
I need help and I know it.

I suppose the historical significance of today has caused me to become introspective; but--and I say this without an ounce of sarcasm and certainly not as an indictment against others--I am so thankful that I live in a time and place where one of my biggest sources of anxiety is whether a bunch of 18 year olds will win or lose a game.

And I have said many times about coaches, I'm really glad the success in my job isn't determined by the consistent performance of 18-23 years old guys.  :D
