To me the special teams screw ups and the penalties are the Sam problems.

Offensively, we were obviously much better.  Not just in production, but in discipline and execution.  Fewer stupid penalties and fewer false starts with great route running and lots of clutch playmaking on third down.  Sure, there were mistakes and a least one bad turnover on the pitch out, but that kind of stuff can be corrected.  New players unused to the spotlight.  It might get better.  Let's see.

But I can't see any excuse for having a punt returner hit by his own teammate twice in a game.  How is that an issue?  Why do we not have a better kicker?  Special teams have continually sucked throughout Sam's tenure.  You win close games with special teams.  Sam's fault.

Same with stupid penalties like the personal foul.  A continuation of a theme with Sam.  Sam's fault.

What the kid said wasn't that bad.  This is a case of an Okie midwit making something out of nothing.  Don't fall for it.

Sam looked at Cam Little's success and let it blind him to all of Fountain's other failures.  What he doesn't get is that evaluating kickers out of high school is very luck dependent.  You can judge physical ability very easily, but you can't tell if they have the ability to ignore the shit in their throats when the game is on the line. Fountain got shit in a swinging jug lucky in finding Little, and if yesterday's performance is any indication he did with the new punter as well.  The thing that isn't luck dependent is whether your returners know when to fair catch kickoffs (ANSWER:  Always with the ball going to the 25), where to be when your punt returner fair catches, how to avoid touching a live punt on the ground, etc.  Those things have been issues sinc Fountain got here.

Sam has done a pretty good job of correcting obvious failures, albeit usually later than he should.  The special teams coach is his one glaring omission.

Remember all the returns for TDs we had with Petrino?  He'd have this shit fixed in one practice.

Our PR crew was getting driven right into the return guy a lot of the game. That's shit that can't happen either A. because surely they are coached better than that. B. It's just plain wrong to be letting yourself get worked like that coming down the field.

Now when it comes to #6...to me the guy is a bit lite...Reggie Fish (ISH) I know he's speedy and maybe a weapon now as a WR but when it comes to return guys I'd rather than be a bit stronger built especially for PR. That Tslaa guy might not house one but he'd be a pretty good punt catcher I'd think.

I don't see Sategna running thru tacklers no matter what kind of lane you give him. But again you can't have your own dudes up in your face when you are trying to catch a ball. That's just plain dumb. I saw #14 do it once or twice and I believe on the fumble it might have been #18 who ever that is. 14 is Bryce Stephens who never panned out at WR but is on the field to get his shit pushed in apparently.

Said this very thing yesterday. Teslaa should have PR duties.

The fact of the matter is that it's highly unlikely that we're going to house one against SEC athletes and punt coverage units, so I'd rather have someone sure-handed handling punt returns. A muffed punt is an absolute killer (as we saw yesterday) because it's a turnover that flips the field, and is basically the equivalent of the defense giving up a 40 yard gain.

Isn't Green playing his last year?  Or do I have that wrong.

He's got one more.  Being Arkansas I expect us to make him go into his final season an another full refresh with a new play caller.  Dude has a lot of potential and this may be a Casey Dick scenario where the November version looks much much better than the September guy.

If Taylen can catch the ball he might Matt Jones' his way into the NFL. Dude is a freak athlete. Don't think he's got the arm to be an NFL QB...leaves a lot of balls short especially on the deep ball. That might just be mechanics and timing that has to beat into or out of him depending on the situation. I think a lot of our reads/options are predetermined. As are a good many of the called passes to primary guys he seems to not go thru progressions very well. I do agree from what I've seen so far I'd love to see Petrino get an opportunity to continue to work with these QBs for a few years.

Sategna wasn't really the problem on the returns.  It was whoever wears #18 not having sense enough to get the fuck away from the returner after a fair catch, not once but twice.    And ultimately, the coach whose job it is to direct players where to go.

We had good special teams with John L Fucking Smith in charge of that part of the game.  Yeah, let Petrino run his foot all the way up Fountain's ass and clean that shit up.

That post-game win expectancy surely hasn't taken into account the retard factor with Pittman. But again with being the 16th thru 30th team in the nation (actual and not pesky rankings) in the SEC just means you are probably closer to the 6 to 8 win mark at the end of the season. The SEC may be a bit down right now so perhaps that statement doesn't hold up but who is "good"...the Big 10? ACC hasn't really impressed. Georgia is going to look bored most of the season and may wake up long enough to win a title. Texas may make some noise but I aint sold so far. Notre Dame has already used one of their 4 losses to rule them out of the playoffs and it's only week 2.

It being a 12 game playoff probably changes some things to. You might see coaches take risks or bring on development cycles a bit slower than normal knowing they probably can sustain an L. But you college football can't help itself and will put a few rent-a-win types that haven't lost a game because they never played anybody into the playoff over legit P5's

After having 24 hours to digest that game I don't feel any better. You should never lose a game like that. But we've been doing it a lot around here. For years. The list of screwups and bone-headed plays is long but the one that stands out to me the most is Sorey going WWE on that guy for no reason, then they score and go for two and make it.

We dominated statistically, which gives me hope for the rest of the year. This bunch has talent. If we don't win at least 6 games that's got to fall on the head coach. Speaking of, I was disappointed that Sam never figured out how to make some 2nd half adjustments with our O-line. Their D was stunting and blitzing and gashing us the entire 2nd half and we never figured it out. Some of that falls on Petrino too.
I really don't care, Margaret.

Every year members on this board claim the SEC is down.  There have already been a few this season already making the claim.

When will the SEC be up?

Don't include me on that list I'm just saying what everyone else on this board is saying in their prisoner of the moment reactions to early season contests.

Yeah, down as in only four teams making the playoffs. It's shit football.

He made one really good play that I remember.  He's a step slow, but he is a decent defender.
