There aren't many plays you can call when you don't get them blocked up front. We're overmatched

Huh?  Have you watched the same games we have?  Petrino has had very few bad play calls... Green throwing way behind or over / receiver drops / Green running instead of throwing to the wide open receiver he didn't see, isn't a reflection of the play call.
