Series win on the road against a Top-15 team.

That's good.

So is only scoring 30 runs in the sec opening series enough to get Nate Thompson fired?

Depends on the batter/inning/game!

Maybe. But we gave up 22. I think we are going to have to score a lot of runs per game to win a lot of games this year. We are giving up a lot of runs.
Well, shit...

Just like it's too early to assume we're going to mash all year like we did this weekend, it's also way too early to write off our pitchers.  This was the first start that wasn't elite for Root, and first one that wasn't at least really good for Beetlejuice.  For some reason Ole Miss mauled every lefty we ran out there, but didn't do dick against the RHP except for Gaeckle's first inning which was mostly self-inflicted.  I'd be more worried if their velocities were down, but all of them were in line with what they've done all year so far.  In Gaeckle's case, with his velocity from last year.

It seems like we've had Tom Glavine work with our starters.  He used to do that...give up two runs and 25-30 pitches in the first inning, then nothing for the next six.

Oh, I'm not too worried. I don't think that ALL our hitters will be in a slump at the same time. In the past, our 1 or 2 real hitters would hit a slump and we would lose a few. We have a lot,of guys that can hit now. And, like you said, it is early. Our pitchers will be OK. And we have a lot of them.
Well, shit...

The Whyte Boar

Well, I'm tired of losing the big games because we can't hit a lick.  So, let's change it up and lose them this year because our pitching sucks.  Lets lose some 14-12 games instead of 1-0.

Yeah, I'm ready for a different kind of misery.

Barton Fink

I think if it came down to it, Coil could be a moved to a starter. I think he could work up to handle the load. Of course, I really like having him as a brisge guy.

Hopefully, Wood returns soon and has some good outings. Dietz should be available soon too if I recall.

He didn't pitch well yesterday (none of our lefties did all weekend), but I think Fisher might get the first crack at the rotation over Coil, if for no other reason than since the end of last year Coil has really thrived in relief.

I'd love to try Wood in short relief/closing again.  Foutch has been probably our biggest disappointment so far.  I think we were counting on him to close...but then again, we weren't expecting him to forget to (or how to) throw that 96 mph sinker as his out pitch.

I was surprised by Fisher yesterday as well. Hopefully, that was an anamoly.

I have 100% confidence Foutch is gonna plunk one of the first few batters he faces. To the point I'm nervous he's gonna kill someone.

Given how OM hit every lefty we tried, I'd be nervous about Hagen facing them.

A lot of the trouble yesterday was the home plate umpire.  His strike zone was wildly inconsistent, and probably cost Beetlejuice at least two runs.

That ump's calls were all over the place.
