Turnover and penalties and penalties especially are the symptoms of a slipshod bumblefuck coaching staff that does not demand accountability.  We've seen it over and over.  It starts at the top.  It ain't rocket science.

I always wonder what rocket scientists say.... It ain't neurosurgery?  

Bama's current head coach and staff have had tons of penalties and turnovers this year. Did they just get lazy and become " a slipshod and bumblefuck" coaching staff from the prior year in Washington where they played for a national championship?

Sam is a career assistant who may be in over his head as a head coach. That I see. I don't see lazy and given your lack of direct knowledge, you just have your opinion to go on.

Let's see if Bama has that problem next year.  I suspect they will work to identify the disconnect, get a handle on the problem with specific steps to accountability and greatly improve.  If they say something like, "Aw shucks, we work on that over and over" and the problem remains, then one may conclude they are lazy, stupid, or both.

I'm pretty set against Sam having future success but I don't think he's lazy.

People can work their ass off on the wrong things and have no intuition or consistent method to self-review what is working and not.

I do think his physical issues this year have taken a toll and he's likely not worked as hard.

Yep. And even more people are great at a particular skill set, but lack organizational leadership.

You could probably plug him back in as an OL coach somewhere once he heals up, and he'd thrive. He's just not built to lead the entire organization.

i read that all of his family that can, is either at the hospital or on their way.  also cal said at his presser to pray for him.

Exactly.  I've learned this lesson the hard way several times.  Being good at a job doesn't mean you will be good at managing people doing that job.  It's a completely different skill set.

The turnover and coaching correlation reminds me of when I was chinstrap coordinator on my son's pee wee football team. The other team was killing us on the reverse and the fake reverse. Our head coach was running out of ways to scream about the reverse. After the game and our head coach gave his speech, he asked me if I had anything. I asked the kids if any of them knew what a reverse was. They all said no.

It's one thing to give some Nuttish 3 points of pressure, gotta protect the ball, it's precious type coach speak. It's another thing to watch a player everytime he touches a ball in practice and look for his tendencies that can cause a turnover. Then you show the player his tendency and correct it. That's a 180 different strategy than screaming "don't fumble". It takes effort and it's what good coaches do, especially position coaches. If a player does it in a game, he's done it in practice.

Mike Leach said you're either coaching or allowing it to happen.

So you either coach your players to not fumble and set consequences if you do so, or you just allow it, which seems to be Pittman and his staff's modus operandi.

I don't mean this as a shot at anyone, but it's simply amazing to me that we have fans making excuses for Pittman after going 10-14 the last 2 years (17-20 the last 3) and fielding one of the sloppiest football teams in the country in the process.

Are our standards just that low now?

In the last 3 years, Pittman is:
0-3 vs Mizzou
0-3 vs Texas A&M
0-3 vs LSU
1-2 vs Mississippi State
1-2 vs Ole Miss
1-2 vs P5 OOC opponents

Since 2022, 7 of his wins have come against UAB, Louisiana Tech, UAPB, Missouri State, Western Carolina, Kent State, and FIU.

Since 2022, he's 7-17 in the SEC.
