Yall are bringing back memories.  High school Bball practice in a gym with 2 ventilation fans and 1 water fountain. One or two water breaks per practice which consisted of 13 boys standing in single file line waiting their turn.

If you'd played at Ozark neither of those fans would be running

Of course not, silly; those weren't half bad once they got softened up.

I just remember being in like junior high probably already concussed and having the coach banging on my helmet with his whistle and dog cussing the fuck out of me. He would tell everyone we were pussies for drinking water. Great guy.
"I got fired for using free speech" yea imagine getting killed over it

My senior year I was out of town when they handed out equipment. I get back the day before two a days started, so went into that first blisteringly hot practice with a helmet too small. There was no air flow in the damn thing so it was like wearing an air fryer. I finally yanked it off because I was about to black out. When I came to, coach was dog cussing me for taking my helmet off during the drill. I think they may have given some water while getting a new helmet, but then it was back to practice.

This is the way most of my generation was. Coach ran the fuck out of you and beat you to death and later when you got older and smarter, you respected the hell out of the guy that put you through that.

Reminds me of the quote attributed to Mark Twain.

"My father was an amazing man. The older I got, the smarter he got."

Not me. When I blew my knees out(two different occasions)my coaches told me to walk it off and I'll be fine/don't need to see a doctor. Now I live with horrible knee pain, walking up and down stairs is my kryptonite.

Quote from: HogOfWar on Jul 18, 2025, 08:56 PMYa'll don't know heat and humidity until you have been in the deep Louisiana south. I'm talking below sea level south and only 40 minutes from the coast.

Just described where I live.  I was in Fayetteville a couple weekends ago on the 4th, people were complaining about the heat, but it felt downright pleasant to me.  The winters can be surprisingly miserable as well.  I've been in Omaha at -20 and was more comfortable than 40 in SWLA.  Its the damn humidity.  We only get about 2-3 weekends in the spring and fall where the weather is ideal.

people here complain about how hot it is at 85 fucking degrees and no humidity. And I'm like stfu you have no idea what heat is till you visit arkansas in July
Yep. I'm not trying to be a dick about it. It could have lived. It didn't. Not by my choice. -Elvis

NWA has been great this summer up until this weekend.  Only hit 90 a handful of times.  As we say that, it will be 95 and humid for the next 2 weeks.  Wunnerful.

Humidity is a bitch. In Louisiana she is standing in the door of a trailer home, only wearing a slip, a cigarette on one side of her mouth, holding a kid in each arm.

Oddly here we have continued to have almost daily showers every week and a nice breeze. It's not been crazy hot here and when it has been the cloud coverage has cooled things.

In my previous home in southeast Virginia (elevation 7ft) near the Great Dismal Swamp, she was 6' 4"/280, chewing a cigar stub, 5 days late on her Haldol refill and sporting a 10" strap-on and a raging yeast infection.

That sucks and sounds as if you are like a bunch of the guys I played ball with.  For clarity, I only played baseball but wish I had played football too.  Several guys I played with now have bad knees/ankles, my C from HS had hip replacement surgery a few years ago.  My arm feels like it could fall off at any point. I sound like a bowl of rice krispies when I go piss in the middle of the night from my knees and ankles.  I still wouldn't trade the good ole days tho.  I'm 46 and it sucks getting old.  To top it off my 16 y/o didn't believe me when I told him what my 60yd time was (6.75). I said I wasn't always 46 son.

P.S. - Tell your mom "hey" for me (for the old Woopig brethren)

Oh the memories.

The severe shoulder separation I got called a pussy for saying actually happened (it popped back in right away) and the two shoulder surgeries in my 30s to fix it.

I guess it made us tougher and taught us early that we were not special.
I'm on smoko, so leave me alone.

Actually, that is a way an administration like the Trump administration could have a real impact without any new legislation.  Get the IRS to examine their buttholes with microscopes and the tax status of collectives and the people donating to them.

Holee shit. I laughed way too hard at that. Where's the donation box?

Heat effects are cumulative. After a couple farm visits this morning I was dragging myself into the house.
