Fuck the Red Cross.  No better example of a profit driving nonprofit than this criminal organization. 

They go into disaster areas and sell supplies to victims and ungodly high margins.  Need a blanket? Pay me.  Coffee?  Pay me.  Fuck them.

Stories abound of them selling coffee and doughnuts to doughboys coming out of the trenches in France.  My mother carried a hate of them from the 1949 Ft Worrh flood where she volunteered and was told to sell blankets, canned goods, etc to victims; she was an exec director for several true nonprofit charities in her life and only allowed non-vocational workers. 

Samaritan's Purse is a model of how a pro care charity works efficiently and effectively for the folks it's built to help.

I can't keep track of you and your jet setting ways.  It seems like you have been in Arkansas a lot lately.

Honestly, it was a pretty tight schedule.  We toured the School of Mines on Friday and then made the rounds visiting friends and family that evening and all day Saturday.  Flew back early Sunday.

There were thousands of Katrina refugees here in the weeks after the storm.  We started bringing things to donate to the evacuees (clothes, toys, blankets, toiletries, etc.)  The Red Cross was "managing" the donations.  People and Churches were cooking meals and bringing them to the various shelters, but the Red Cross was throwing the food away instead of serving it.  Local folks volunteering for the Red Cross started letting people know what was happening.  Word got around and the donations to the Red Cross dried up, people went directly to the folks in the shelters.  So yeah, give your donation to another organization. 

Not sure what to make of the Cajun Navy yet, looks like there are at least 3-4 groups using that name on the internet.

We moved him to community college at the start of 11th grade.  He is about to start Cal 3, physics 2, computer coding 2, has the English and history requirements fulfilled.  Straight As in everything.   

I've heard that Mines is tough to get in to for out of state kids.  Same for Georgia Tech. 

I'm tempering expectations.

Try $60K a year OOS.  Its $40K in state.  After Merit scholarships it will get OOS down in the $48-50k range.  He has one more year of home schooled community college so we have time to apply for scholarships that I'm sure we won't get.  Luckily we have been saving for 20 years towards the kids college.  UT-Dallas may be where he goes based on cost alone.
