The European heatwave is pretty bad this summer and most of Europe has no ac and most places are at 95 or higher right now and humid af.

A week ago they were shitting on us once more for having ac

My 88 yr old grandpa would sit on his front porch swing reading the paper in August wearing a long sleeve shirt and overalls after working in his garden all day. He'd say "100° is just about right"
But, he'd grown up without AC in the backwoods where they'd dampen their bed sheets and make a pallet on the front porch at night to stay cool.

My great grandpa had an attic fan in his house over on Salt Creek in saline county. He'd kick it on and open the windows and it was like you were sitting in the backdraft of C130 propellers.

Our attic fan went out one summer and my parents put box fans backwards in the windows to reverse the airflow.

We had one of those.  Didn't live in a house with AC until about 1965 or so.

We just had a box fan in every room. My first place with AC was a lindsey box with a crappy window unit in the living room in 1992.

The house I grew up in had an attic fan, no central AC.  Heat was from 2 floor furnaces.  My parents put a window unit in their bedroom, but that was it.  They decided to sell it in 1992, the realtor told them it wouldn't sell without central AC and heat, so they had it installed just before we moved out

I grew up in a house with central heat and ac, I think it was my parents house house with it.

They would turn the ac off at night. We each had a box fan in the window to use during the summer.

We didn't run ac at night growing up we had an attic fan and left all the windows open.


In another note the Utah fires are nuts this year. We keep getting smoke in Colorado messing up the views of the mountains. Sorta glad we decided against northern Utah and Idaho and instead go to Wyoming after the fourth. Boise down to Tucson is just getting ripped with no rain, high winds and low humidity.
