I'm watching Ryan Hall Y'all on youtube. He's showing Mississippi getting fucked up right now.

From the pictures I have seen, there wasn't a lot of places you could have taken safe shelter in Rolling Fork. Everything is destroyed.
Well, shit...

Our duck camp was about 6 miles south of RF back in the 60s-80s... we'd come to town and eat at that restaurant they been showing on all the reports... nowhere to hide there, soil probably to soggy to have anything below ground... hate it for that lil town

@1:30 mark, that's a water tower on the ground.
It took me going back three times to figure out what it was.
That's a first for me.

That's a poor ass part of the country, probably 75-80% black folk.  I hope they get the help they need.

I have seen lots of photos from my friends on Facebook. Just horrible. Cars and trucks thrown around like toys. In one restaurant, the owners hid in the freezer and some in the bathroom. They made it (I don't know how). There is a truck laying on top of that bathroom.
Well, shit...

The bathroom and the truck on it. I have no idea how the people in the freezer survived. The restaurant is gone. Another restaurant owner said his truck was picked up from behind the restaurant and tossed to the front of it. There is a picture of it on its top and crushed.

God himself only knows how everybody there wasn't killed.

What do you do in this situation?  There's nothing that can improve the standard of living there. It would be very hard to justify investing insurance or aid money to rebuild a town destined for poverty.

The median income for a household in the city was $23,081, and the median income for a family was $24,911. Males had a median income of $25,729 versus $17,065 for females. The per capita income for the city was $11,481. About 30.6% of families and 37.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 50.0% of those under age 18 and 24.6% of those age 65 or over.

Wonder what % of those people were renting?

Probably a lot of older barely maintained homes. I hope those that owned and had insurance didn't cheap out and have the depreciation included in rebuild costs.
Careful man there's a beverage here

How many times has mayflower been wiped by tornadoes and yet they keep rebuilding back.

DRYANKNPULL

Makes a pretty good comparison since the towns are about the same size. Mayflower has double the per capita income and a 7% poverty rate compared to 38%. Mayflower is 20 minutes from everything in the state's largest metroplex. I makes sense to build it back.

SwahiliSteve

Well I guess just move them all to lake Village

Some of those energy tax credits arising out of the Inflation Reduction Act that go toward "under served" communities will soon kick in I'd reckon.
