Oden, Conley, Sullinger, and Igoudola and we'd have cut down nets again.

Nvm don't think they would've overlapped.
Marcus Saxon was gonna be on some of those late 90s teams who went on to have a great career at Utah State and I think played in the NBA for a minute. He was a very steady taller version of Mayberry.

Ok...just looked I think he would have been in that Jesse Pate, Sunday Adabayo group that would have been something but the NCAA was fucking us real good back then.

Barton Fink

Correct. Saxon and Pate were together. That was a top 5 class in the country that year. Pate got hosed.

HTL

Sunday Adebayo was around Little Rock at one point.

HughJasole

That '96 team that Pate and Adebayo got axed off was good. Snuck in as a 12 seed after losing that pair and made it to the Sweet 16.

Lost to Cal's Minutemen in Atlanta. With those two still on the team, they probably get a 6 or 7 seed instead and might have made an even deeper run. Hell, Mississippi State made the Final Four that year.

It was the #1 class that year. Saxon, Pate, Adebayo.

You'll never convinced me otherwise to the fact that I think the old, crusty, faggoty, white men across the blue bloods and NCAA had a bone to pick with Nolan's brash attitude to their perceived authority. He was just about to get the monster rolling after 1994.

They were way overrated.

Maybe so, but kinda hard to argue with the term when there was often no discernible offense and a defense that depended on making 20+ fouls a game.

I don't remember UNLV or Georgetown really getting the shit that Arkansas got during their run for "street bawl". I figure we were a threat to Kentucky's superiority and that ruffled some feathers.

UNLV sure did. I don't think Georgetown played that way. I remember John Thompson as pretty regimented with a conventional offense.

Early on Georgetown got some of the same criticism.  It wasn't justified but it was there.

Don't matter Dillard from the snout. Nolan has a couple years left if he's lucky. Build the statue.

I remember the documentary when Nolan said what he really heard in the way they called us "street ball."  They weren't complimenting us.  Even up to the 1994 Championship game, Duke played a "smart, full-court man pressure defense" while Arkansas played "street ball."

Was and still is bullshit.

that's what i meant.

to try and put it in any other context is disingenuous or naive.

Stupid metrics question: from a NET, RPI, etc. perspective would we be better off if Houston or T Tech won tonight since we played both? Or is it basically zero sum? Same with Duke and Louisville earlier? I would think we want our quality wins to look even better.
The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

The "metrics" in college basketball are pretty dumb. That said, all of them boil down to 1) win, and 2) hope the team you beat yesterday, last week, or last month, also wins.

Had Louisville beat Duke, that would've helped our numbers. Same for Tech against Houston, but because we beat both Louisville and Tech, and lost to Duke and Houston, it didnt help us.

But it's all nonsense metrics unless you're looking at the last/first 8.

The difference is Duke's "smart, full court man pressure defense" didn't usually include all the hacking, slapping fouls that ours did. You never heard anyone say anything like "well, he gives them another 5 fouls" about a Duke player like even we said about some of our players.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Nolan and his teams.  But let's be real about their style of play.

You're right. Nolan's teams were better at it.
