Thin Red Swine

Quote from: Hizog on May 03, 2025, 07:09 PMCoil is supposed to be back soon. Hopefully Dietz can get some mid-week reps in this week. Who knows what kind of form he will have, but he has potential to be the closer that we've been missing.

Foutch may have figured out today that he can be that guy. It wasn't pretty for a minute but he buckled down.

I think DVH really likes this team.  And of course he should.  Fingers crossed.

I think he can too and I hope he is. I just remember at one point DVH talking about how special Dietz is. Would love it if we got him back and he lives up to the hype. I miss the days when we got to the 6th or 7th inning and brought Kopps in. Everyone knew it was over at that point.

We have enough talent.
We just have to get hot at the end of the season.
This is a team that could win it all.
Peak at the right time.
Hoover is meaningless, so don't worry much about that.
Oak Grove in the house.

I think it is different this year in that it is a max of 3 games.  If you make it to the finals, you would most likely have faced at least 2 teams you are competing for Regional seeding with.

He definitely seems to like our lineup a lot better than in previous years. Everyone can hit, get on base, and hit the ball out of the park.

Hell, our 9 hole hitter is tied for 3rd on the team in homers in SEC play and is batting a hair under .300 in SEC games.

There don't seem to be any automatic outs like in years past when we had guys like Parker Rowland, John Bolton, and Diggs at the bottom of the lineup who were automatic outs and would often kill a rally.

Guys like Robinett, Boles, and even Fraser have come into the lineup and produced in big spots.

I still worry a little about Iredale. He seems to have come out of his slump somewhat, however he still worries me at the plate. He blooped a single to right I think in the last game but his swing didn't look right to me.
Well, shit...

Agreed, he's about the only one who gives me pause at the plate right now. He seems to be a guess hitter who has a low swing, which means he'll hack a lot of pitches low and away or in the dirt.

He's got the lowest BA in SEC games (.256) of the regulars in our lineup by quite a bit. Thomas is a full 30 points higher at .288, and everyone else is over .300.

Listening to the Southeastern 16 Reaction show on Friday night, they think we effectively locked up a top 8 seed with our game 2 win against Texas.

According to Boyd's RPI Needs Report, coming into Friday, we only needed to win 2-3 remaining games to secure a national seed. After beating Texas on Friday and Saturday, that figure is 0-1 with 6 to play.

So we could effectively drop both remaining series and even get swept in one and still be a national seed.

BASS

Get a national seed, lose first game in Hoover. Rest everybody and let them heal.

Kill em all and let God sort them out.

I don't know why we even have an SEC tournament AFTER the regular season SEC winner is determined. It means nothing to a majority of the teams.

Agree but the new format is a big improvement.
The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

With the new format I hope we win the mother fucker.  It will be just like another three game weekend series.   All the starting pitchers need to work at least a few innings that week to stay sharp.

That said I'd rest guys like Maxwell or anyone else nursing injury.

Show-Me Hog

Get hot at the right time. That's all that counts. We got hot this weekend. We don't need to stay hot until the NCAA tournament, but we need to be hot then.

How in the absolute fuck do they stay #1?

They have a better resume than anyone else.
Still a two game lead in the toughest conference.

It's pretty clear that they aren't the most likely to win in or even get to Omaha.  And they're far from the most talented.  But just looking at the records I can't see how you could put anyone else in that spot.

Let them keep that target on their backs.

There are other polls which dropped Texas.  What, 5 or 6 reputable baseball polls?

Love D1's reasoning here, "The Bulldogs (Georgia) also own a head-to-head series win against Arkansas, which keeps them ahead of the Razorbacks in the rankings."

Uh, we just swept #1 Texas.  Why are we not ahead of them?
