Putting this out into the universe — the absolute best case scenario for us would be for UCLA to beat LSU in the 1-0 game. That means we (presumably) wouldn't face Anderson or Eyanson in the elimination game, assuming we handle business against Murray State.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that LSU only had 6 hits and scored 3 in one inning only hitting one ball out of the infield. They weren't exactly raking last night. This is the same team that got taken to a winner-take-all game in the regional by a sub-.500 Little Rock team. Who's to say UCLA doesn't give them all they can handle?

Yes, we pull for UCLA tomorrow and then get LSU's 3rd pitcher in the elimination game.

Almost exactly the same swing. The only two major differences are location of the target and no back swing in baseball.

I don't know about that. I played baseball my whole life and had a pretty decent swing, a left handed pull swing.

Long about my freshman or sophomore year intramurals had a long drive contest. This was at the old intramural fields north of where BWA is now (or maybe exactly where it is?) and south of the old baseball field.

Having never swung a golf club before, I stepped up confidently and gave it my hardest swing and hit it 300 yards.

150 straight and 150 to the left (slice).  I tried again. Same result.

I have never really gotten rid of my slice as a golfer except if I concentrate hard on keeping my front shoulder DOWN and pointed at the ball, and if I execute that correctly with great mental effort, I can hit true straight shots.

But it's sure not the same thing as my baseball swing.

The more you swing like a baseball bat, the better it is. In fact, one of my favorite drills is to take several swings waist high, but with my normal golf grip.  Once the feel is grooved, just take that down lower.

It's still not as "easy" as baseball, of course.

The main problem with playing golf with baseball or softball was usually when doing both in the same day. You'd be worn out from being in the sun half the day.

The weight transfer is similar.  Power generation comes from the same place.   No stride for most.

Chris Lee of D1 baseball actually predicted this before the CWS began. He said we'd lose in round 1 to LSU, work our way out of the losers bracket, and win it all.

DVH is in the classic dilemma of do you take care of the weak team with a lesser pitcher, at the risk of going home while leaving your (next) best pitcher on the pine, in which case you'd be kicking yourself.
