Quote from: vegashog on Sep 14, 2025, 09:55 AMour defensive scheme in the first half did our not so great secondary no favors. all the blitzing and never getting to the qb left a bunch of confused db in man and made them look retarded. in the second half we ran base d and at least made them punt twice. small victory.

our o-line is light years better than last year. they blitzed a shitload too and got zero sacks and two tfl on running plays.

someone in this thread mentioned green was limping, apparently he played with some kind of hammy issue.  and he still kicked ass. go compare his stats to the guys that were preseason heisman picks.
I actually feel a little bit better after the game last night. The offense is good and I think we can score on anyone in the country. We are just a decent defense away from being a good team. It's unbelievable how bad we are on that side of the ball.

Whoever the next coach is needs to keep Petrino.

Our defensive line seems to consist of two or three guys that are so fat they can't move laterally the entire defense really struggles laterally.

We don't have an edge rush to speak of either

Why would BMFP want to stay around this shit show? He could go anywhere and be great. And, as I have said before, why can't we have a pretty good offense and defense in the same year? We seem to always have one or the other.
Well, shit...

4 1/2 point favorites over Memphis. Not a sure thing.

Quote from: wmr on Sep 14, 2025, 09:27 AMIt's a mindset.

Ole Miss has passed us recently because they have a young, redneck, aggressive AD who played basketball there and hates us because Nolan would not give him a scholarship.

He lives and breathes Ole Miss.  If they can't win or improve, it bothers him.  He takes it personally.

He's excellent at getting their donors to step up.  He negotiated Kiffin the smart way and made Yurachek look stupid.  He saw that Beard is a great coach and went for it when he had a chance,  without thinking about the "oh he needs to prove himself stable somewhere else" bullshit. He didn't think for a second about "what it might look like".

He loves his school,  and he wants to win.  Period.

We have hired the corporate types since JFB and we've been on the decline.

Until we find that similar person, obsessed with making Arkansas sports successful,  nothing will change.

There are a half dozen woopiggas who would get better results as AD than Yurachek, because they care and see obvious stuff when it is obvious.

And I'm not being hyperbolic.

Can you describe what corporate type Hootie is?  I'm thinking Jack in the Box

I don't get the cult of Petrino.  Hopefully we hire the type of coach who runs a tight crew and brings them here, who has solid in the rise coordinators and a great strength and stamina staff.  If bmfp wants to interview he should get a chance.

It's idle speculation anyway because Sam will not be fired if he loses out.  I believe 2-10 will get him retained.

The O-Line is only marginally better. Pass blocking is better, but couldn't open holes for the running backs.

Luckily Green is our best running back or we would be trouble.

Better defenses are going to be trouble for us.

No because if he gets to 2-7, that would trigger a lower buyout and save somewhere between 3 and 5 million dollars. He might be allowed to finish out to 2-10, but it would make zero financial sense.

But that's not going to happen. We showed last night that we can lukewarm our way to somewhere between 5 and 7 wins, and 7 automatically adds another year to his contract.

Looking at our schedule, what games are you saying we can win?

we rushed for 221 yards and averaged 6.0 per. it doesn't matter who gets the yards.

Quote from: Thin Red Swine on Sep 14, 2025, 11:11 AMand 7 automatically adds another year to his contract.
this part is false. he got his only extension by beating kansas in the bowl game.

"The contract will be automatically extended a fifth year, through December 31, 2027, if Arkansas wins seven games in any single season, and that includes with a bowl win over a Power 5 opponent."

the wording is a little confusing but he didn't get another year for beating tech last season.

Do you even watch the game? I get it, we lost, defense looked awful, but our OL is not margianally better than last year. They are light years better.

We didn't give up a sack.

We ran the ball 37 times for 221 yards, which is 6.0 yards a carry. Mike Washington had big holes on his two TD runs. MW avg 5.0 yards per carry.

Cornhogio

I thought Braylen Russell should have gotten more reps.  Tenderize that d line a bit, and then let #4 gash them.

there was a white boy playing in the 2nd half. landon phipps.

could have been because the other guys couldn't get off the oxygen. that or he's really coming on chuck.

Russell was a better runner than Washington from what I saw and most of the runs were off the tackle. Take out Green's runs and what did we average?

Green didn't stay in the pocket much, which was why he didn't get sacked.

A better defense is going to have a field day with our O-Line.

Gonna disagree with you. The offense put up great numbers. 35 on the road in the SEC is very good.

The defense shit the bed.

I hear what you're saying but the offense had the ball with a chance to put us ahead and they fumbled the win away.
