Quote from: HTL on Sep 21, 2025, 11:01 AMVickery has no unique insights there.

On tension within the staff, when one coach's wife refers to the other coaches and their wives as fucking backstabbers, things aren't going too well.
Well, don't Beauregard the insights. Tell us the scoop that Vickery wouldn't. Don't care about the women details. It would be more unusual if they weren't cat fighting.

Quote from: Show-Me Hog on Sep 21, 2025, 08:50 AMThis is largely a semantic debate. I personally don't think effort is a talent, because effort is something you can consciously choose to have and do and you can change yourself if you're not naturally inclined.

I can't choose to have a 36" vert or have great hand-eye coordination or be 7 feet tall.

Somewhat semantic and yes effort can be forced by an authority, but it's fleeting. At best, coaches taking time to work on that just wastes time that could be better spent building more complex elements for the team's best success.

I'm gonna read it this time instead of just correctly guessing the talking points.

"That's embarrassing.  Looks like Josh Duggar the first time his parents asked him to babysit."

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

Once authored a post that critics claimed, "Was notaslibro level."

You can't MAKE someone taller or make them faster or jump higher...but you CAN, with the proper forms of motivation, make them put forth maximum effort.

I have seen dudes that went into things dead set on putting forth minimum effort and even some so dead set on it, that they wanted to get kicked out.  That is how bad they wanted to loaf.  I saw those dudes going like they had their hair on fire as well a short time later.  As I said, there is the superior motivator of respect, but in a pinch, fear/intimidation will also work and you 1000% do not need to be bigger or younger to put the fear of God into a young man and get that young man to put forth maximum effort.  Hell, it might be something as simple as a phone call to his mamma or granny or whatever pressure point is needed to motivate that young man to see the light.  EVERYONE is afraid of something.  Everyone and it can be used to motivate them, be it their ego or even use their peers to get the job done.

I know football isn't the military, but I can guarantee you that many of the same attributes to motivate young men apply as the pool of young men that both are drawn from is very similar, often poor, lower class high  macho dudes.

Laid back buddies don't cut it.  They will run over them eventually and neither respect them nor fear them.  That is what you have with Sam.  They don't respect him nor fear him.  The worst of situations.  That is how you get the loafers we saw this Saturday that had zero shame about it because they didn't respect him enough to not do it nor fear the repercussions from him of doing it.

I can tell you this, if Petrino was coach, they might not respect him, they might hate him, who knows, but they sure the fuck would fear what would be waiting them on Saturday night if they loafed like that during a game.  Hell, they would fear would be waiting on them when they got back to the sideline as they would never leave the sideline again.

To be clear, I'm not advocating for a hands-off sloth like we currently have.

And I understand the pool is largely the same, but the mission isn't comparable. Football is something these kids have done their whole lives, and presumably never under any threat of being shot at.

Here's the pivotal third down play.

Impossible to pick who gave the LEAST effort.

Fuck Pittman. How does Travis Williams still have a job?
The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

I think 22 is my favorite. He kind of danced around a little then ran over by the pile 10 yards downfield.

I doubt this team has let go of the rope just yet.

Even if our team was within 10 yards of the rope, we would just play patty-cake with it instead of holding onto it.

man, he's a lot more optimistic than i am.

It's like they thought that was the last play of the game half way expecting the offense to take a knee. The quit in this team is at Chad levels...but probably a lot worse. We are going to be giving up 50 to backups the rest of the way.

ND will be able to name their score
Things of that nature

Defense was likely butt hurt after finally stopping Ole Miss and giving us a chance to win, to turning around to see the offense fumble and piss the game away. Add in the supposed NIL disparity between the offense and defense, and I'm sure there is animosity in the locker room.

Now that the offense has fumbled again, I don't think we'll win another game.

How did he make a name for himself as an SEC caliber defender while he is scared to play defense?

I mean, you do realize the background some of these kids come from...to assume they have played without the thread of being shot at is quite a leap.

Sports and military are amazingly similar, actually.  They are both "team" sports that you have to work together to achieve an objective against another team.  Preparation, effort and decisive action typically win the day in both.

I have blabbed on about this for 20 years here on the Woppussy.

Job number one for a coach at any level is to get your team to play hard.

We do not play hard. Our Coaches have failed, for whatever reason.

What is the NIL disparity you speak of? I hadn't heard this. Don't we have WRs from Mizzou St, Montana St and Charlotte? They're taking all the money?

Job number 2 is to know your talent and find a scheme they can execute.  You can't play press man with a slow white CB (see last couple of years).  You can't play a complex zone with a bunch of guys who struggle to even line up and who loaf every other play.
Good coaches try to hide less talented players in their scheme.
Good coaches also try to find the other team's less talented players and beat them over and over.

Good break down by Carter....the first play illustrates some next level genius by Petrino
That play is more or less a fullback wheel route
