Quote from: animal on Sep 30, 2025, 06:42 AMI'm in favor of ditching a lot of that RPO bullshit in favor of some meat and potatoes pro style play calling. Green is still going to get plenty of run opportunities out of broken plays and forced runs because of coverage down the field.

Green is not the future...KJ may be the future at Arkansas or elsewhere with or without Bobby. If KJ is "ready" then I'd expect there to be a shift to him at some point this season maybe with a 4 or 5 games left. This benefits him and Bobby in terms of potential chemistry moving forward.

Our running game has not been good and I'd expect a different look out of that coming. We've got too good of RBs to not be getting more out of them than we are. Something has to change. We need to be leaning on the running game to run clock and keep our fucking shitty defense off the field. Play ball control provided we aren't giving up TDs left and right.

We've backed out of the running game a bit too much if you ask me.  I'm not sure of the reason, really.  I think DJ and others eluded to an OL issue causing our backs to not hit the hole or allowing DL to come through by releasing them thinking the other guy was responsible for him.  We had a few series that looked great, lean on the run and then play action... then suddenly we aren't doing it anymore.  IDK if it's Petrino or TG.  I also wonder how much of the OL Bobby has been actually responsible for.  What we know for sure is that there is terrible communication on D, and sloppy/poor communication on O.  I hope Bobby fixes that issue.

Didn't we used to do the flipping the tackles Strong side/Weak side when he was here before?  Do we do that now?  That might be a clue as to whether he has full control of the offense/line or not?

I don't think he's done that in a long time

Why?  I genuinly don't know so any explanation is appreciated.

Do you see anyone else at any other level doing that? His reasoning was it expanded the playbook in the run game. No reason to over complicate that, especially with the very average talent we had up front.

Between the two positions they are generally regarded as far different. The drops and steps are significantly different.

This has mostly changed because teams are not just running right at defenses anymore.

So you have a tackle ideally suited for backside protection and the other tackle typically on the right side that's usually a bit more of an athlete and or weak link.

There's probably more technical reasons than that but anyway that's the gist

I don't see what everyone else doing has to do with what we do.  Second, did flipping the line work or not?  I don't recall it not working so since it did work I don't see what makes it stupid.

It was to expand the running game playbook. We barely had one serviceable tackle much less asking two to protect Mallett's backside.

Would you want Ray Dominguez protecting your backside? The OL was the weak link on the offense for sure.

Will be interesting to see what if anything changes with regard to play calling.  I suspect there will be some changes but not sure what.

Why would there be changes? Sam had little to no input with any of the three OC's that worked for him.

Sorry. I'm going to have to call a false start just for you mentioning Ray Dominguez.
Oak Grove in the house.

I think he had more than you realize.  We'll see.

Has KJ played yet this year? If not, I could see them saving him for the last 4 games. I think Green definitely starts against TN and Aggy.
The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

I think we see very little, if anything new. On the contrary, we'll see less variation. You can't install anything in the middle of the season.

At this point, it's better to do basic and the "meat and potatoes" stuff well then introducing anything.
