Quote from: Texzilla on Oct 08, 2025, 11:22 AMBert had the right attitude but the wrong solutions for his naive view of the SEC and how to compete against powerhouses like Alabama.  He was too locked into the Barry Alvarez / Michigan game.  His attack on the hunh was stupid; it's a great tactic to offset the endless substitutions of better deeper teams at the top in the SEC.

I liked his emphasis on a powerful OLine and running game.  I thought his history of raising nfl o linemen would be our calling card.  He failed there because of his other failures, primarily his disregard of strength and stamina. The Heat murdered him and he gave that squad too much time off.

He had two masterful playbooks in the archive, and could have learned from Gus as well.  JFB had the same issue against the SWC, and figured it out.  Recruit Texas heavy with HS coaching networks, speed to the ball, brains, no turnovers or dumb penalties, and stamina.  BMFP showed how to do it with great quarterback play and a big playbook.

In the end he was brought down by his arrogance, stubborness, and laziness.
Bert just didn't recruit speed. We were slow in team speed.

A power I would work great in this age of spread them out offenses, defenses aren't built to stop a power run game.

Power I only works when you have an advantage on the lines of scrimmage.  Arkansas will rarely have that in the SEC.

It's a lot easier to recruit road graders than pass blockers.

Truth - he was used to the lack of speed in the big 10.

Remember the fake punts he would try with the punter running around the end? In the plodding big 10 it could work but in the sec there was zero chance as the everyone on a sec d-line was as fast as a big 10 running back if not faster.

He wanted to out Alabama Alabama, nice concept but was never going to happen.

Exactly why he was a great hire on paper but a terrible fit for a job like ours.

I think it's important to remember that the Big 10 had a few of their major programs on probation when Bert did well, and the players were all Alvarez's players.

pretty sure ohio st was the only b10 football program on probation then. meyer still went 36-3 with a nc.

edit: pedo st was put on probation the year he left.

Adding to that, Herbert's stupid ass packed 20lbs onto Alex Collins and killed his burst and top-end speed he showed as a freshman.

Much like Sowders did with Rocket in 2023.

Not to mention Alvarez was AD while Bert was HC at Wisconsin and maintained close oversight on the football program.

He was able to cut loose and have free rein at Arkansas because he worked for a weak, feckless twerp of an AD in Jeff Long who was more interested in profile building and the CFP committee.

He's probably lost it by now.

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

Marty and McGee with some shit rained comments; obvious they watch no Arkansas football.  McGee: " I don't want to think about college football without Sam Pittman in it!"  Marty Smith:  "Drama comes with Bobby Petrino. Fired the Ddfensive staff.  Those players loved travis Williams they played hard for him!"  Huh?  Fuck those idiots.

They're both fagorts anyway.  Too busy painting each other's faces instead of studying the stuff they get paid to talk about.

Oh, they pain each other's faces I'm sure.  Faggorts for sure.

I'm nowhere near ready to declare Bobby 2.0 a failure. That's a crazy take, imo.

Tennessee is the worst possible first opponent considering our circumstances that lead to the coaching change.

If we were playing Auburn at home tonight, we're winning and everyone's mood is totally different.

This team needs four wins to reach a bowl. We have two games at home and three on the road. It was always going to be a tall task, but this is clearly not the same team that played Notre Dame, or Ole Miss for that matter.

this game wasn't going to decide anything. he's got more opportunities and if today is any indication, he's got a great shot at being the next coach.

gotta have wins instead of excuses tho.
