yep, danny west said he talked to an instate kid committed elsewhere and the kid told him he had known about silverfied for "a few weeks".

I would be somewhat surprised if it were true.  Perhaps a kid said he "knew about Silverfield" because RS called him, but not that he'd be the head hog.  "Knew about" as in knew of or heard of kind of thing.  If local kids were being told he'd be the knew coach weeks ago... then I'm certain it would have been on social media.

That may be true.  I keep seeing reports that he had to bring in something like 78 new players last year.  Then went on to go 8-4.  That does seem indicative of someone who can evaluate talent and pull it in from the portal.  Though, I didn't go look and see how many were from the portal vs HS recruits, etc.

Well, the dude doesn't lack for confidence.  It also seems as if he has been thinking about and maybe even planning for this particular job for a long time, like maybe he has had his eye on it for years.  If so, maybe he has given it enough thought that he has very specific plans and ideas on what is wrong and what needs to be done. 

There might be something to be said for a guy who actually wanted and planned for our job as opposed to a payday and opportunity to advance.

By all accounts it sounds like RS had eyed our job for a while and has sincere appreciation and respect for it, and wanted it when it was pretty undesirable. That has to count for something.

People are downplaying his record the last 3 years, but winning 29 games in a three year stretch where the portal and NIL were in full effect and you're overhauling your roster every year is still impressive no matter where you are and who you're playing.

Actually it's not as much about scheme as recruiting.  Fucking AI can write up neato plays, but you have to understand how to work the portal, allocate nil, and manage retention.  If HY brings Scott gasper as GM from Memphis then we've laid groundwork for that.  He understands the modern game in a way all the retreads don't, be it Saban or Sam or bmfp or Franklin. 

He'll get the coaches but if we stay rooted in managing our business like it's 2015 it doesn't matter if Tom Landry and Don Coryell are the coordinators.
