The Hollywood corporate suits got involved. Those old commercials from the 80s and 90s were created by real artists who wanted to create something memorable. Today, the commercials are suppose to be inoffensive and appeal to everyone. Its the same thing that has happened to everything else corporate dispshits get their hands on: Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, etc.
