Which part of the paragraph bases its conclusion on one of its premises?  It's binary: either the pass receiver is offside or he isn't.  If he's offside, the play is dead and it's a turnover.  During an obvious goalscoring opportunity, the field ref often lets play continue after the line judge raises the flag because it's better left to VAR at that point.

Imagine a football team on offense at the opposing one yard line.  They line up and punch it in, and everyone celebrates!  Then we all see a flag was thrown, because the right tackle was offside during the snap.  Is that "touchdown nullification", or just a dead ball penalty?

So the 100,000 times a basketball announcer has said "they disallow the basket because the foul occurred prior to the shot", they were all incorrect because there was never any basket to begin with?

It feels like offsides is a bigger issue because it often takes away scoring in a low scoring sport. A goal taken away from an offsides call has a larger impact than questionable call in most other sports.

Agreed. This shit where a guys forehead was over the line is just goofy. And to Barton's point, it's even goofier because we're not talking an 8-6 ballgame here. These matches are often settled 1-0 or 2-1.
