Whatever goodwill was earned in the third quarter was thrown away by punting in the 2 minute drive. Sends a message that the coach just quit. Fans will never forgive a quitter.

Quote from: Barton Fink on Oct 10, 2026, 06:26 PMNot that I think we would've made it on 4th  but you got to try.

Or at least come out looking like we knew what a 2-minute drive was.  Wasting first down just standing in the pocket was not what real offenses are going to do.

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

Curious - 17-17, we had all the momentum, who else here had no optimism at all that we'd pull this off?

Me. I had seen it before, many times.
Well, shit...

I was willing to give Silverfield the benefit of the doubt with him having to spend all his time fundraising, allegedly not getting everything he was promised, but that punt was inexcusable. The play calling on 3rd and long was inexcusable. This staff deserved every single one of those boos. I shouldn't even be pissed but I yet I am.

Thin Red Swine

Quote from: Barton Fink on Oct 10, 2026, 06:28 PMRS would've at least shown something promising by trying to win. Now the team played better and he looks like a pussy.

Exactly this.

You're 2-3. You need a spark. These fans haven't seen a home win in two years.

You fucking punt with under two minutes left.

312 EC minimum, and I am thinking he may take the popular vote.

We don't have the talent, but the players we do have showed up and give it everything they had.

We don't have the coaching either, and our head coach and offensive staff shat their own pants as well as each others' pants.

On the somewhat bright side, Texas lost.

None here. I just waited for it to happen, and it did.

I came in it was 14-7 and I went back out and finished my yard work. Just finished up without even looking again until now because I knew the ending.

Barton Fink

I mean everything you built up in the second half was thrown away at the end. Just incredible.

Well put.  Running on 3rd and long, more than once, and then not even trying to make the last possession a two-down territory for a conversion - it's like we're coaching to avoid being in high-pressure positions.  You can't turn the thing around by always taking the safe route.

It sucks we lost but we looked like a competent football team for the first time so that is improvement. Build on that. We covered the spread. Build on that.

The play calling was proof they have no faith in the QB, and yet they keep trotting him out there

That third and long with about 4 minutes left I felt like was "4 down territory" but they ran twinkle toes on a smoke stall and that put the 4th down play into doubt. That play might have worked...back in 1990.

"I got fired for using free speech" yea imagine getting killed over it

Borenutz

Best case scenario of that punt, barring a turnover, was a 3 and out, no timeouts, and worse field position. Not that I thought we'd convert the 4th and 10 but you gotta go there. Even worse was the play calls of the last drive.

Loma

We should have run a draw on that last 4th down play.

I am looking for Kevin Kelley's tweet about the punt as we speak.

The parallels to Chad Morris are too hard to ignore.

Remember the Colorado State game in his first year when he punted from the 50 to start the 4th qtr up 7 and we ended up losing?

Same type of vibe.  Everyone knew right then he wasn't the guy.  The fans knew and the team knew.

I get the same feeling from this.

the key difference is the players now are paid to care and for many with additional eligibility it seems like it might be in your best interest to put something on tape that doesn't suck. So there's that.

If they have no faith in KJ might as well put that kid back there and let him take a beating.
