Quote from: Show-Me Hog on Oct 11, 2026, 09:02 AMThe punt wasn't even the worst offensive play call. At least had a logic to it, stop them with three timeouts. Bad logic, but there's something to grab onto.

The two runs on 3rd and long, wrong time to run. Then you get the ball with 2 minutes left, all 3.timeouts, and you go incomplete pass incomplete pass incomplete pass. First or second down would have been the time to run.

Our offensive execution is only outweighed by our offensive playcalling. Both horrendous.

Don't forget bad decision-making by the quarterback.

On the last 3rd and 10, he had Lockwood wide ass open 5-6 yards right in front of him rather than trying to force it to Marshall. That easy toss would've made the 4th down much shorter.

And I guess maybe Silvercuck might've gone for it then.

Texzilla

Terrible o line coaching in every aspect combined with awful play. Kitler needs cut from the team, oline coach fired.

The team had better effort but the game wasn't dependent on the punt decision. I would have gone for it but had it failed folks would have been crushing him for that. The defense gave up some stupid long plays in run and pass and failed to get the stop.i would have gone for it but it was a hopeless situation either way.

This was the first sign of 1 step forward, 2 steps back and I understand we got called for a shady holding call and that's when the wheels fell off. So we're back to delicate egos and all that shit. I don't want to use words strung together like "The talent is there" but I kinda think that's partly true at least in a "we can be competitive" sense. It's combination of coaches are retarded, not playing certain guys, players on the field need to play with better fundamentals, be mentally strong. This was a seven point game and if the QB understands the 2 minute offense we probably give ourselves a chance.

Before all that when we punted with about 4 or 5 minutes to play...that was not a terrible decision to punt. Defense at that point was playing reasonably well but showing signs of weakness. He puts our D back on the field and they rip us a big run right off the bat....pretty sure Boyer #44 wasn't in the game. So that pretty much sealed our fate. It's one of those things where if the d holds serve we probably win field position. Instead we let them go 95 yards and get a tuddy.

I'm not a huge Russel guy but the dude didn't touch the rock after he ran hard and scored or at least not much after that. What in the blue fuck are we doing? Maybe Smith is the "pass blocking back" by default....idk but it just seems like we should be playing Cam or Russell a lot more snaps...they look like some serviceable SEC backs.

As bad as we shit on Hootie I have high confidence right fucking now he'd be doing better with this group.

"I got fired for using free speech" yea imagine getting killed over it

Show-Me Hog

Of course HDN would be doing better. He was mediocre. We were tired of mediocre, we wanted to be good.

We would kill for mediocre now. Morris will probably remain the worst D1 head coach I've ever seen, but dang if Silverfield isn't trying to give him a run for his money.

Agreed. If we had a QB, we could've won 5-6 games. KJ is f'n terrible.

Barton Fink

We made a terrible hire and are at a minimum stuck with him for another year. Compounded with the least talented roster in the SEC.

HY, the BOT, chuck and bo, all say we're going to have our shit sandwich and be happy to have it.

If we'd gone and failed on that 4th down what we'd all be shitting on Silvercuck for would be that 3rd down call that made it clear "two plays to get the first down" never entered their minds.

If he's a CEO type that lets the coordinators coordinate, he still has to know in that situation that we're going for it and he has to tell the OC that at the start of the drive.

We got a younger less fat Pittman.

Not a soul would have crushed him for that decision.  At that point it was literally the only decision.

Agree. We all knew there was a low chance of us winning with either decision, but your best chance to win was converting the 4th down with all 3 TOs. We have a glass half empty coach.

On the bright side, maybe he is already feeling the heat and/or actually has reason to feel it.  That was a scared decision, not a decision from a guy in his first year with nothing to lose.

Go for it and win or lose you could make the narrative about improvement and all that.  But he froze and made the one decision that could defeat that narrative.

DrMongoose

The punt decision was beyond horrible

Read the room Ryan

Your defense just gave up a 5 play 94 yard drive allowing them to take the lead and all the momentum.

Even if you go for it on fourth down and don't make it you are still going to have to get a stop, have all the timeouts, plus field position doesn't matter for them as they are only trying to get a first down, scoring is not the objective but 10 yards is. Nothing changes by going for it but the field position which again is meaningless.

Anyone who thought punt was the play obviously didn't watch the previous Tennessee drive.

Granted he has lost a lot of the fan base with his choice, I wonder how much of the locker room he lost as well.

Kelly was right.  Best case is we force a three and out and then get the ball back at the same spot on the field only with less time and no timeouts.

I need an actual honest practice report because I'm getting the vibe that we do shit like we did in the Chad years and use practice to just walk through plays.

G5 teams normally look at their former coach who left to a P4 school like, "Yeah, we understand."

Memphis on the other hand is laughing at us.

Thinking back on the game, we really only had 1 good quarter. We were awful the first half. KJ was terrible. We ran the ball good in the 3rd, but that's it. RB distribution was a head scratcher. Again, coaching and play calling was suspect. We also benefited from awful QB play from TN. I think TN played down to our competition more than we played up to theirs.

I am sure we will see signs at Gameday thanking us for taking him like SMU did with 1.0

Instead of hiring Silverware, we should have hired his AD.

After a night to reflect, yep, still think he is a shit coach that is in WAY over his head.

KJ looks like me, who is right handed, trying to throw left handed. Fucked up motion.
