FSU didn't take the TO before 2 minute warning. They will take it after the next play (if 4th down). So they will have 1 TO and 4th down with say 1:50 left.

If they had taken their 2nd TO at 2:10, let the next play run and the 4th down comes at 2:00. They still have 1 TO and 10 more seconds.

I agree. Petrino missed calling one last week and I was yelling at the TV over it. Hell, call two before the 2 minute warning if you have 3 left.

As much as they go over every little thing 100x especially in the off season, it always amazes me how they don't have time out scenarios worked out exactly and to a science.

It's really simple isn't it? Save all 3 for the final 2:20-ish of the half. Before then, only use a timeout to prevent a penalty (delay of game, 12 men, bad alignment/wrong play called).

Ideally then you have all 3 left inside of that 2:20-2:30 window. If you're down, on defense, and the clock gets inside of 2:25, you use 2. The 2 minute warning then serves as a 3rd.

You're setting it up hoping your defense stops them and you get the ball back, and you have 1 timeout in your pocket for your 2 minute offense.

100% agree. Clock management is the single most aggravating thing to me in the sport. I'm smart (dumb) enough to realize that any D1 coach has forgotten way more football than I'll ever know, but good lort. I'm also autistic enough to understand a lot about numbers. It's not just the timeouts, and has nothing to do with tonight's game.

A bigger thing for me is when a team crosses the 50 into enemy territory with, say, :30 seconds on the clock to win or tie w/out any timeouts. Say it's 1st & 10 at the 42 to set up a generic scenario. CLOCK THE DAMN BALL. You don't have time to run 4 plays anyway w/out timeouts. 2nd & 10 w/ :28 seconds left is much better than looking at the sideline and having :15 seconds left after the play...regardless of if you get anything on first down or not on a rushed call and confusion. Clock the ball, keep as much time as you can on the game clock, and calm the hell down.

It's even worse when this happens inside the 20. Doesn't matter if this is against the Hogs, some team against another team I prefer, or some team I'm wagering against. It just blows my mind and pisses me off. How do D1 coaches not prepare for these situations?

Yessirree doc. End of half or game situations drive me crazy. Hitting the clock with 0:00 with timeouts still in your pocket that could have helped you, drives me crazier.

There are several things that can stop the clock under a minute. Out of bounds. Incomplete pass, including clocking. Penalty. First down. IF you are hurrying, once the clock is under a minute, if you run a play and none of these happen, meaning the clock continues to run, USE A TIME OUT. You only "save" one if it's the very last one, and you will have another need and opportunity to use it before 0:00. But otherwise, blanket rule, use the time out.

Pretty big shitpot of games today as far as the SEC goes, besides us/Texass and UT/Fla.  Bama is -50 vs Eastern Illinois and I saw it at 54.5 earlier.  I don't know that I've seen a line that high.
