So did SMU death penalty itself by joining the ACC for free for the first 7 years? I mean obviously whatever deal they had in the AAC must not have been very good. Also why was SMU thrown in to begin with? Is it because Cal and Stanford wanted another academic school to join them in getting ass fucked by the ACC?

This entire thing is weird. I'm glad the SEC has basically said they've got all the schools they wanted and don't feel the need to do odd shit like get a west coast school.

I imagine the PAC2 will announce it's folding operations effective July 1st 2024

Pretty sure they saw it as the easiest way to move into the Texas market. Gotta grow those media market dollars. We all know that SMU doesn't turn on the TV sets, but I guess that part doesn't matter in these negotiations.

there was a pool of money available from espn if acc ever expanded. they found two schools - cal and stanford - desperate to hook back up with a p5 conference and another in smu that would whore themselves out so they can say to the other in state schools they are now in a big time league.  because of that, the current members get more money. that's the reason this happened.

as far as texas recruiting, clemson already has two of the top 25, including #1, in next year's class.
