That makes no sense whatsoever. Targeting on a sliding quarterback has always been part of the play and results in a first down. You don't conclude the play and then give the targeting. What in the world?

Right. As said on the previous page, it is akin to a targeting hit after an interception. You get the penalty yards but the change of possession stands.

1) after the runner is down (usually it's on the hit)

2) short of the first down on a 4th down play

I read their boards after the CU game and they were pissed.

I didn't see Sonny Dykes' halftime interview, but have heard he was evening questioning what they were doing on offense.

Looks like Briles pissed away a good situation here. That's a far cry from Sam calling him the best OC in the country and defending him publicly whenever he got flak for his playcalling here.

I'm certainly not a Briles fan, but if you score 42 and lose, I'm pretty sure offense is not your biggest problem.

He did the basic Kendall Briles shit.  Gashing them with the run?  Get into the red zone and only pass.  Get the ball with 4 minutes to go and needing to get into FG range?  Start with empty backfield sets, get rescued by luck, and then start running the ball from obvious "We're running this time!" formations... and then cap it off on 4th down by throwing 5 yards short of the first down marker.

I remember losing 3 out of 4 to the SCJr and not breaking 20 points in the losses.

I remember scoring 6 points and losing to GT twice (very much like last night)
I remember scoring 13 against NC St (very much like last night)
Not to mention the squeaker wins with minimal scoring over average or under average teams.

Oh....and our worst defeat on record occurred in his tenure as well (WV in the orange bowl)

He took maybe the best high school job in Texas and probably easiest place ready made to not fuck up and manage to lose a game or two that season. I think he threw his staff under the bus as I recall.

At any rate he's damaged goods. You can't leave a path of destruction in your wake every where you go and have a legacy of Clemson getting tons better after you've gone as a place to hang your hat on. Had Arkansas not hired him my guess is SMU would have run him off in short order.
