Well I noticed right away that the SEC team joining in the first weekend blowouts was a definite counterpoint to the "Bama or Ole Miss should have been in" arguments.

I actually think it's a sign that 12 is too many, 16 would be even worse.

It's not like basketball where 16 is as good as 1 on any given night. There's a real difference between the top 4-5 in football and everybody else.

We definitely were beaten soundly by a better team.  Totally outmatched by their skill players, which in the past has been an advantage for us when we played most Big 10 teams.  Not anymore.

We did have a good season compared to Cornbread's 3 vacated wins in 2020, but I will say that Heupel's teams on the road have not played "tough".  The Hogs and Georgia whipped us up front this year and we just didn't play smash back. It is most evident on offense, in that our wide receiver corps this year were pretty average.  On defense, our struggles came vs teams with excellent offensive coordinators, Tim Banks was good against several teams but Petrino and Kelly outsmarted him. 

Willie Martinez has got to go, our corners are poorly coached in my opinion.  Like every other team, I suppose we have to spend more money to get better players. 

The games on campus were electric and cool to watch.  The Rose Bowl will be a good one to view as well.

Any year there's 3 teams at most that are legit contenders for the national championship.  The whole CFP bullshit was made up to give non-SEC teams a chance after the Alabama-LSU rematch game pissed the rest of the nation (the shitty part) off. 

2014: #4 Ohio State caught lightning in a bottle with Cardale Jones and beat #1 Alabama 42-35.  #3 Florida State lost to #2 Oregon in their first round game against Oregon by 39.

2015: #4 Oklahoma lost to Clemson by 20, and #3 Michigan State lost to Alabama by 38.

2016: #1 Alabama beat #4 Washington by 17.  #2 Clemson beat #3 Ohio State by 31.

The worst anomaly was 2017 when #4 Alabama beat #1 Clemson 24-6 in the first round.  They then beat Georgia in OT to win the natty that year.  #3 TCU upsetting #2 Michigan for the opportunity to get buttfucked by Georgia in the natty might be as bad but at least that year the buttfucking was in the natty instead of the first round.

It was dumb as hell in 2021 when Cincinnati got the #4 spot so Alabama could beat them 27-6 in the first round.  #3 Georgia beat #2 Michigan 34-11.

TL;DR we should have stuck with 4 teams.  But Florida State!  They weren't going anywhere without Jordan Travis last year, and everyone knew it.

I'm fine w/ 12 teams because it means more football.

But, it should be the best 12 teams.

Take the top 24 at the end of the season, and let Vegas run their millions of simulations of all of those teams head-to-head and take the best 12. It will never happen because of bullshit committees, but they should let Vegas seed it. SEC would have had 6-8 teams in it this year.

As long as you include some of these non-P4 types in the upper crust just because of their record we're gonna have a watered down playoff. I realize they can't fill the entire thing with SEC and Big 10 schools but on the same token you should be able to objectively figure out that SMU and Indiana were gonna get their shit pushed by whomever they were put against. Great seasons for both, and both came from P4's. I get it...but overall they were a product of soft scheduling and/or luck of the draw. Bottom line they took away a spot from teams that traded paint all season while they were eating cupcakes.

Given the parity caused by the portal/NIL I think at some point as they tweak this playoff we'll get better games (maybe) and likely for a time we'll see a few non-traditional programs getting in. Which I like but not really because it's not us.
