I'm with you in the minority. There's a difference between best and most deserving. Give me the best. They could use the old BCS formula to seed them 1-12. This isn't the NFL with balanced schedules so SOS absolutely has to be a major consideration. I'd rather a 3-loss team who played a tough schedule get in over a 2-loss team who played 2 good teams all year. I turned off SMU/Pedo St at halftime to watch the NFL instead.

I like the idea of just taking all the FCS games out of the scheduling, create six 12 team conferences,  two divisions each, and implementing a scheduling algorithm.  Everyone plays their division, a couple of teams from the other division, and then a three of teams from another conference.  Rotate the conference match-ups every other year.  Every team's entire record counts for division championships.

college football is unpredictable which is what makes it so great.

Ohio State's best regular season win were Penn State and INDIANA!!
I still don't understand how the team that beat Tennessee is the same one that lost in the same stadium to Michigan - rivalry yea but that works both ways.

The expanded conferences is only going to make it harder to determine strength of schedule because of the metric of divisions which was somewhat of a constant is gone.

Herbie and the like want to gripe about quality wins but totally ignore bad losses.

The SEC and Big 10 want to control it all but why do they not break away? Why are they staying part of the NCAA if it is so broken (which it is, thanks mostly to the Big 10 and SEC)?

Another team that beat playoff-worthy Tennessee lost two other home games against non-playoff teams by a combined 56 points.

They certainly could. It will be the leverage they hold over the CFP to change the format when it gets "revisited" before the 2026 season.

I also don't see the SEC moving to 9 conference games now even though it seemed a certainty for the last year. There's no reason to take another loss unless ESPN comes up with a shitload more money.
