Because the rose bowl has to have the sunset at the end of the 3rd quarter, a tradition they will die for and what prevented a playoff from happening sooner.

It really is a dump. I was in LA early last year and made a trip out of my way just to see it.

Without a nice paint job on the field for this game, which is certainly always pristine, it's ugly as can be.

Well, it would probably be a ghost town inside the stadium if it was at night.  Playing it in the day will allow a lot of people to attend and get the heck out of Dodge without having to find a room for the night in NOLA which will probably be nearly impossible now.
