I'm not sure Norvell would've been uber successful here given the state Bert left us in, but we wouldn't have hit rock bottom like we did with Morris.

He's still had had a somewhat rocky tenure in Tallahassee, and his first two years were a shitshow after the Taggart disaster.

Norvell was still an offensive-minded G5 spread coach who had zero SEC background. We ultimately needed a guy like Pittman who knew the landscape of this conference and could remake us physically, mentally, and ideologically into an SEC program. Still remains to be seen how Pittman's tenure ultimately shakes out, but he'll leave the program light years better than the state in which he found it.

Definitely would have been better in 18 and 19. I'm not sure Norvell would have been a better hire than Pittman after Morris. I don't think he could have changed the culture like Pittman has.

Let's not forget FSU fans were pretty frustrated with Norvell the first two years.

I think Norvell would have had a 5 year run of so so results on account of shit show on defense. He's learned on the job at FSU and he's now on his 2nd DC I believe so he's figuring some stuff out. The next step is to sustain over a course of a season because FSU's season comes down to beating Clemson and probably UNC...everyone else should be a W. These top schools in the ACC can whine about their charmin soft league but come over to the big boy pants league and let us know how you like 7-5.

That being said the SEC did not acquit itself to open the season with losses to PAC12 and ACC


Anyway a more seasoned Norvell in a few years would be highly coveted but probably fits into that Gus Malazahn (prime) or Tommy T (prime) in coaches that "got away".
I'll add that literally nobody talks about Memphis no more...when the good/great coaches leave it's amazing what happens to a shit program.
