Being within one score and having a fourth quarter lead is competing by definition, regardless of anyone's subjective analysis of the talent level. 

The next step is actually winning some of those games.

Yep it's the same song and dance we have lineman that are so slow they can't even lay a finger on the D line.

As DJ said it's shit like he knows to chip block but didn't bother to try to come back on the DE so that guy has a free run at the QB.

Talent is an issue, continuity may also be a thing. Years ago we always would say stuff like it takes time for the lineman to come together and work as a unit. Well now the dynamic is you throw free agents in there that haven't been in the system and you get what you get.

Braun isn't good and wasn't good last year...mainly doing the same shit. He had some good plays against shit competition this season and has been whiffing lately.

Blackstock looks pretty much like a guy playing out of his depth... probably should be a guard.

Nichols seems OKish, probably better as a guard.

Harris makes a few mistakes but on some of those replays of our line getting blown up he's in the shot holding his ground or driving his dude off the ball.

Carmona seems somewhat ok but this is what you get signing a kid that was good in a lower tier league...he isn't necessarily good as an SEC player.

not having any depth on the o-line has been something we have been dealing with for years. maybe other teams, outside of the top ones, have the same issue, i don't know.

perhaps changing priorities with our nil spending. giving the majority of it for qb and rb instead of guys that can be productive on the o-line doesn't seem to work. i know that may be really hard to do but it doesn't matter how good you are at the skill positions if they running for their lives or getting stuffed on the los.

Maybe Braxton or Metcalf? I could see J Jackson being great on a decent team. L Jackson is either great or terrible. No consistency.

The last time they had us was against Georgia in 2021.  It will be hard to surpass that level of embarrassment. 

They had us last year against LSU. Another game we could have won.

This is exactly why the line guys in the NFL are valued very highly. I don't know if NIL has caught up to that, but I agree in principal that we should be attempting to load up on quality at the interior positions on both sides of the ball over "skill" guys. On the other hand a great man once said...If you don't have speed you are chasing it. Truer words have never been spoken.

Talent evaluation really plays a critical part in all this and we fans are simply treating this as a money proposition where as I believe most universities are still applying the same recruiting techniques they've always used and money just happens to be an ace in the hole. I don't know that WE are approaching this from a professional stand point of knowing what WE have on hand relative to what we don't have on hand to address needs. 

The point of hiring Bert and then later Pittman was that these guys could bring us up to speed on blocking and tackling. Neither has shown any talent for recruiting and or developing lineman with any significant consistency. Arguably Bert did a better job of it and is a far better coach and certainly far more accomplished. This staff (Pittman) has completely whiffed on a lot of players namely lineman and it looks like that trend has continued. I know a couple are playing on other teams as starters. Manual, Su'a, St John, Chamblee, Patterson...anyway that's 5 guys off the top of my head gone from the program because we couldn't develop them like at all.

It has been a known issue in all corners of football that teams struggle to protect their QB because offensive lineman are being poorly physically developed especially for pro style offense. So I guess that must mean we should go out and run a pro style offense. Oh by the way this looks exactly like last season's players "not getting it" and it was directly because the lineman couldn't figure the shit out. But that was Eno's fault. The run blocking scheme to me looks more like what we were doing with Briles. Petrino's passing scheme is straight up his own though and as DJ points out the plays are mostly there to be made we just don't have a guy that's seeing it or pulling the trigger.

He is only getting pressured 6.25 times a game so far.  That would seem to be the important part of that stat.

Just don't turn it over and take a lot of sacks.

Maybe we could emphasize pressuring him, but knowing us, we'd show he gets better at dealing with pressure when he gets more that 1.5 per quarter.
