I agree. But there's also probably some degree of getting paid without having good performance, which should be the opposite of how NIL works IMO.

I agree on the transfer rule being a much bigger deal than NIL.

I think we can get a good coach too if Muss is gone. Facilities, history & very recent March history, fan base, ability to pay, etc...

And we can rebuild w/ that new coach relatively quickly bc of aforementioned bs transfer rules.

Look at LSU. Lost Will Wade and literally every scholarship player either to graduation or to the portal in 2022. Made a good mid-major hire, rebuilt the roster, year 1 was tough, but they were already competitive again here in year 2.

The portal giveth and the portal taketh away. But even worst case scenario is not a death sentence anymore.

Personally I hope Muss and the 4 aforementioned players have a come to Jesus. Highly unlikely. I just prefer multiyear players to one-year mercenaries. At least some semblance of "like it used to be."

I do wonder if he was an issue in the locker room, once he was eligible and started playing the team chemistry was never the same it seemed. All the mojo from the duke win was soon gone.

This is the perfect storm for Muss to find an excuse to jet on out find a new/better NIL situation and sit back and say it wasn't him. UCLA, Stanford, and possibility USC could open. I don't know any of those solves much of a problem with NIL cache flows but if Muss is truly one to move on this may be the year he does it.

The way you build teams seems to be shifting sands in college basketball and football now so I struggle to place all the blame on this staff. I do feel like our administration and whomever we've outsourced our NIL shit to has dropped the ball big time and the football season proved that. What we saw with basketball season just reiterates that. 

What's transpired during the season is a mess to say the least with guys opting for knee/gay management, rumored in-fighting, clearly guys not playing as a team thru-out the season. The coach has to get control of that shit and anyone with eyeballs could see. Muss flat out never had this team this season and I feel like he didn't really have the team from prior season either despite our Sweet 16 run. That's concerning.

So if he stays it's probably time to part ways with some of the staff. I figure Smart and possibly Brewer get moved on. I think Smart could possibly find a lower tier gig as a head coach. Todd Lee and Anthony Ruta have long time relationships with Muss...don't see them getting axed to leave. Lee developed Stanley Umude at South Dakota fwiw.

Saban said it after the CFP loss, instead of being hungry to get back to work and get better his players were just coming to ask how much money they could get next season.  Basketball is the same, and we're never going to give it the NIL attention it requires.

Yes it was but the question now is are you better off with top 20 recruits that will stay a year or slightly lower rated ones that will stay 2.  The answer to that may have changed out from under Muss and if it did change it might change again.  This has turned really complicated.

Yet there's no guarantee you'll get them for the second year since they're free agents.

I agree. I saw a tweet, I think from one of the media members but I can't remember who, saying that it's no secret that he has been shopping, but with some of the other comments in that thread I kind of interpreted it as Muss trying to get a new contract from Hunter for more money. Oats and SC's coach both just recently signed a big extension and maybe Muss is wanting some of that reassurance from the AD. And money, of course.

I do wonder if he leaves if we try to go after Sampson again. He was who I wanted before Mike even got fired. I thought it would have been a sure thing since Yurachek hired him at Houston.

I'd say is trending down but we'll know more about that in the coming month or two.

I think we need swift decision making from a standpoint of who's staying and who goes. Obviously some of these dudes already moved on and I imagine a few more will follow.

I'm ok if Brazil moves on...to me he's not an NBA player but certainly he could still blossom just don't know that we need to put our eggs in that basket case again.
