Quote from: Texzilla on Jul 21, 2023, 11:20 AMWhy stop with a 20 footer when a 40 ft high boy only cost a little more.  Connect a 20ft to be your command post/mancave.  You might be down there a few years.

Yard space mostly...We have lots of trees and there just isn't a good place to bury one other than the greenbelt and the HOA might object to that.

Holy fuck I laughed at that hard.

In my defense I've had a tiny bit to drink.

It was cooler than last year's tournament but it can get damn humid in Kansas City. Tuesday and Wednesday I think were worse humidity wise than Atlanta was last week.

I don't know how folks did it before wicking fabrics much less umps in coats and ball players in wool uniforms.
Check your damn blood pressure!

That was a smooth delivery.  Kind of like Oklahoma's David Payne and "Got o your safe space... Jesus would have been in there 10 minutes ago."

Also the global warming in Jonesboro was terrible yesterday.  75 degrees, but we all know global warming is responsible for cooler temperatures.
"That's embarrassing.  Looks like Josh Duggar the first time his parents asked him to babysit."

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

Climate change, man.  It covers hot/cold/dry/wet/windy/foggy even smoky.  You gotta keep up with the lingo.
Oak Grove in the house.

You gotta admit the racket is strong.

Heat, cold, and switching between them (variability) all explained by greenhouse gases emitted by man. It's a miracle, I tell ya!

The sun baking in the middle of summer? Climate change!

Storm comes by to cool it down? Storms are caused by climate change!

Freezing in the winter? Tough winter caused by climate change!

It's positively astounding to watch people think this is "science."

I would like their science to detail the swings in weather, hot, cold, rain, drought, hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods for the different regions of the united states for the last million years.

Generator location to the main panel is about 10 feet, through one outside wall.
There is a pretty major gas line for the pool heater about 6 feet from where I want to put the generator
Will need a pad
Will see about permits

Need to see how big I need/want.  I probably don't need to run all 3 AC units in 100 deg+ heat, as I can just run one and stay in that part of the house if needed.  The main thing is to run the Trane unit which is mostly just a big ass fan in the winter and I guess keep the pool equipment going if there is a power outage to keep that shit from freezing, but have heat trace on all the above ground lines now, just needs electricity.

They are very common down here due to hurricanes. Consider getting soft start kits installed on your AC compressors, if you do a 24KW genset should be able to power 2 residential AC units easily, and 3 as long as you pay attention to demand.

If you want something that can power your house for an extended outage, pay the premium for a water cooled unit.  Heat kills these things.  The upkeep on a water cooled is more involved, but they are much more reliable.  If you do go with an air cooled unit, learn the basic maintenance requirements.  Shut it down for a period of time daily, and I'd change the oil every day.  Consider removing the cover as well, it will be louder, but it will help it run cooler.

I don't know if it can still be done, but after Hurricane Rita, a colleague contacted one of the manufacturers directly.  They would sell and deliver him a unit at wholesale, it was a substantial savings at the time, but he had to buy 10 units.  Apparently that's how many fit on a truck.  He just had to find an installer.  I passed, I don't remember if he found 9 other interested homeowners or not.

Why does the JoA Ben need to know.  Figure out a way to bury it sideways into the green space under the ground or under a neighbors house.  They won't know what they can't see.  Tell the neighbors about the ficking fracking.  Most folks believe anything if you either blame fracking or Trump or illegals.

I would if I could for sure.  100% guaranteed, if I ever build a house, it will have a basement/bunker with at least part of it hidden and accessible from a secret location.  Gonna fortify that shit.  Just not many options with our current house.

It does have two secret rooms that are more like closets, but quite well hidden and secured by magnetic locks with battery backups and internal locking mechanism.  They aren't very big and one is already pretty much filled with 'stuff' that I might not want anyone to find, especially the ATF>

I keep having this periodic dream that I built a house with a hidden basement that contains a bar and half basketball court.

I'll contribute a batting cage with pitching machine that accommodated baseball AND fast pitch and slow pitch softball.

I'll also keep us stocked in Stadium Style Nachos with high quality pickled jalapeños.  And pretzels.

You know the only way to keep the secret is to murder the contractors that built that giant hidden basement.

So I see folks posting on boards..."thermostat at 80.  Doing my share!"  Well good for you.  That means more grid for me.  I've lived when AC was a treat.

Mine is set at 70. I don't apologize.

While you are all stocking up on guns and ammo (as am I, maybe) I am also stocking up on antibiotics and such shit. Don't want a splinter killing me or my family. So, if you invite me to one of your bunkers, I will have the shit that will save you from any infections.

Yeah. 80?? Uh no. I work to pay bills and be comfortable. I dont have a large house, so I'll continue with my +/-$70ish electric bill and keep mine on 70.
I can't so much as drink a damn glass of water around a midget or a piece of antique furniture.

You can fix a lot of shit with Wonder Dust and Ivermectin.
