Has the big boy blown all his NFL money?

Doc Hogaday

He's got a new book coming out August 30th. I'd surmise a lot of this is for publicity to sell some hardcovers because he needs the money from those sales...and whatever he can get out of this legal business.

I also have no doubts that the Tuohys are dirty actors in all of this.

The fact that their biological kids got a cut of the royalties and he wasn't included sums it up. Wasn't one of the kids on staff up here?

"The Tennessee family accused by retired NFL star Michael Oher of tricking him into a conservatorship and claiming all the proceeds from a blockbuster film about his life responded to the allegations Tuesday by claiming that Oher threatened to go public with his story if they did not pay him $15 million."

Again...he needs the money. Not that he isn't definitely entitled to some backpay.

The timing is what doesn't make sense to me. Why not do something way sooner? At 37, he doesn't give a beagle's butthole whether he is a legal family member or not. He can't have JUST found that out. That's just to garner sympathy.

I wonder when the last time was that they were on good, solid speaking terms.

Supposedly lawyers have taken this on only to quit.

He was apparently getting checks but refused.

He likely hasn't a fucking dime to his name outside of that book advance.

That's not a response. Someone can be blackmailing you and still be entirely correct.

We did right by Michael because ________ is the necessary response.

And we know this how? The googlez says net worth around $15mm.

Loser dad says they only made $14k each. Legal filing says $225k for biological kids plus 2.5% of net proceeds.

From the son:

"I've never once talked about, truthfully, um, how much money I have made off the movie," SJ Tuohy said. "But candidly — I mean, I don't really care that much, it's gonna be public record now anyway. But . . . remember I got the first check. I was at the University of Arkansas (as a member of the coaching staff). We were in Memphis. We were, uh, um — I'm trying not to get me illegal recruiting implications. I was around my house at the time. I met my dad for lunch and he gave me a check, and I'm like, 'We get paid off this thing?'

"He's like, 'Yeah, it's made so much money now that they can't hide it.' We've probably — we, as in me personally only, because I can speak to that — I've made like $60, $70 grand over the course of the last four or five years."

The way he tiptoes around it and with the father's quote, it definitely sounds shady as hell. I hope Oher has a hell of an attorney and takes it to all of them.

this is shady af. Clearly SJ was making a lot of money whereas recently Sean says the fam didn't make shit off anything. Fuck them
Yep. I'm not trying to be a dick about it. It could have lived. It didn't. Not by my choice. -Elvis

Jason Whitlock ripped Oher lawsuit as a shakedown claims Oher's allegations against Tuohys won't be seriously questioned because he's black. Yikes.

I liked Wilson's comments.  Tuohy said oher tried to shake them down for $15m.  He knew he wasn't adopted way back as he explained in his final est book.

The folks not wanting to see a trial is Hollywood because it will expose the bullshit of Hollywood cost accounting.  Lucas still claims return of the Jedi has yet to make a penny of profit.  After a billion + in rev.  Stan Lee never got a dime for Spider-Man movies with huge revenues.

I'd like to see a real timeline of the time he came into the home, conservatorship, the book, the movie, his draft etc.  I think media is merging it all together and it's a long string. I think the tuohys had a legit commitment to adoption and had the most interest in getting him in OL Miss without getting an ncaa hammer as he was a "booster".

Quote from: hit_that_line on Aug 15, 2023, 11:56 AMThey received 2.5% of net proceeds. They made a lot. I would've been more surprised if it turned out the Tuohy's weren't pieces of shit.

Do you know how Hollywood accounting works.  They talk box office in public but they bury so much shit into them they never make a big profit.  Net proceeds on that movie are minimal.  We'll find out in discovery.

For that reason, Net is not how the big names structure their deals.  If they aren't getting a straight fee, those big name actors and directors negotiate a cut of the gross.

It grossed over $300mm at box office plus rentals, ongoing royalties etc. He had to have gotten raw dogged in this deal one way or another. It had a fucking $29mm production budget. You fucking people. The Tuohy's no doubt are pieces of shit.

I hope the Tuohy's are vindicated.  Seems everyone, with zero proof, are taking the side of the football player.  Not sure why but have my suspicions.

Well, I figure its because he has blown through all his cash and his career is over and now he is finding his second wind.  Kid of like the Collen Kaepernick story.  The fact that both are black and both sets of "adoptive" parents are white has nothing to do with it.  I figure both guys are not good humans.

But your theory might be true too.  ;D
