With so many new players and coaches, it's hard for me to predict more than 8 wins until I see this team on the field.

Petrino and Jimbo will hate each other and A&M will fall apart because of it.........but you can bet your ass it won't happen until after they play us because we are Arkansas and nothing good is ever allowed to happen to us.

I'm not going to pick specific games because Pittman has a Bert-like penchant for losing some he shouldn't and winning some he shouldn't.

I think we'll win at least one in the brutal 4 game stretch of LSU, A&M, Ole Miss and Bama, but I think we'll offset it with a dumb loss to the likes of Florida or BYU. I also think people are weirdly overlooking Mississippi State — they have Rogers back, probably the most experienced OL, and return a ton on defense. Arnett is an unknown and moving away from the Air Raid, but I think they're going to be better than people think.

At this point the A&M game is a complete write-off. Not because they're a much better team, but because we always find a way to lose that game in the dumbest fucking way possible. Same goes for the Mizzou game.

Yes. A&M and Missouri have our number. Hogs could be undefeated going into that missouri game and still have zero fire and get beat.

My emotions can't take watching Petrino carve up our secondary again.

If A&M scores a touchdown on a very obvious 4th and 1 then I'll give up on Sam's ability to learn.

Quote from: bigpale on Aug 24, 2023, 12:55 PMIf you had to pick one, who would you rather beat? Ole Miss has been the team we've gone back and forth with since Pittman got here. A&M is that little ankle-biter that we should beat but have stepped on our own feet too many times. We might not play them annually after this year, so I'd like to send them packing with an L.

tough one - have hated Ole Miss for almost 50 years being from eastern Arkansas but recent history with A&M is like you said

I will go with beat both of those and do our annual screwup against I dunno, Florida, instead, which may happen anyway.

Mississippi State returns four starters on defense.  Unless those guys each weigh 500 lbs they don't return a ton.

That doesn't mean they won't beat us. But if they do it won't be because they are more talented.

There's no possible way we'll lose to some Bible college no matter how bad we are.

Plus they have an off week before us and we'll be coming out of Tuscaloosa having played 8 straight weeks.

Highly unlikely we go undefeated so our first loss will be late in the season.  I figure an injury or two will derail us somewhere late.  Either to a shitty Florida or a shitty Auburn.  In typical Arkansas fashion it will be Missouri.  This is one of the more favorable schedules we have had in years.

Favorable? In what conceivable way?

We're gonna get beat to hell physically in that five game stretch and then be too banged up to finish strong against the weaker back end.

7-5 is as optimistic as I can get.

Other teams are getting beat to hell as well.

Ole Miss plays us a week after LSU and Alabama in consecutive games.

Auburn flat out sucks.  They shouldn't beat us regardless.  I like their trajectory going forward with Freeze as a recruiter, but he's got a roster full of dogshit right now.

Miss State replaced a legendary coach with a very unusual system with a guy who's never been a head coach, who is changing that offensive system without the personnel to do so.  They also lost 8 starters from a pretty decent defense.

If we beat all the teams who should be less talented this year, we go 9-3 at worst.  We are better than Ole Miss, Miss State, Auburn, Florida, and Missouri.  If we go 7-5 this year, with a senior all-SEC QB and one of the top RBs in the country, then we've likely seen the peak of what Pittman can accomplish, and it may be time to start planning his exit strategy.

Freeze beat us with a Liberty roster.  Granted, he recruited them, but I wouldn't overlook him in year 1 at Auburn.

He also lost to Burt three times with a much better roster than he'll have this year, while we had a team that was at best equally talented versus what we have now.

I don't understand the talk about talent. Sanders and KJ are good. Have some serviceable pieces doubt there's that much NFL talent on our roster. Not as much as the roster who beat Ole Miss and Freeze in OT.

Burt ain't coaching here, so what's the point of that?  He beat us in his first two years there with shitty rosters full of Nutt leftovers.  2015 was that 1-point OT game and 2016 was a 4-point win at home, both games that could have gone either way.  We only had one (somehow) convincing win with the 30-0 win at Arkansas, and they ended that season ranked #17 by the AP... with that hilarious Peach (?) bowl against TCU.

Overlooking the motherfucker is EXACTLY how Liberty kicked our ass, but you do you and I'll hope Sam isn't following that example.

I hope we aren't overlooking them, but those Ole Miss rosters were much better than what Auburn has.  For that matter Liberty's roster last year was better than what we'll face on November 4th.

And I hope to God Sam is a better coach than Burt.  He's damn sure proven it to this point.

Miss St is going to be like us in 2012 with much more tragic circumstances. Great QB and a hot mess all around him
