I strongly believe NIL and the transfer portal are what led to Saban retiring. I mean he's still working and making good money, but I think he was tired of what the landscape has become.

I agree, Pearl was doing fine with it.  I didn't realize he was 65 y/o - would've guessed late 50's.  I can't imagine any Auburn fan is happy with his decision (basketball wise).  My point was we'll probably see some really good coaches walk away from their sport.  I'm surprised Rick Barnes is still coaching.

saban didn't like the idea that kids today don't worship at his throne. that and everyone else had at least the opportunity to play by the same rules.

barnes and cal are two great examples of older guys that have nil resources and school support and know how to manage some egos.

The NCAA has ruled former G League Ignite player Thierry Darlan eligible to play Division I basketball at Santa Clara, his agent, Todd Ramasar, told ESPN.  Darlan becomes the first player to obtain NCAA eligibility after playing professionally in the G League, where he spent the last two seasons.  He will enter college as a junior with two years of eligibility remaining.

the ncaa wasn't going to try to fight it. it looks his argument might have been he received only "actual and necessary expenses", i.e. had nothing left over after rent, etc. there is precedent for it according to this article.
