Yes. Arkansas has around 100k per year for women's basketball. Missouri, fucking Missouri, has 600k. Tennessee and LSU are both over a million. For women's basketball. Let that sink in. Everybody wants to hate on Mike but he was put in a totally no win situation this season. And it started last season.

They get money like the Hogs men's team got money from John Tyson. Many of these other teams have donors with huge pockets who love women's basketball. Arkansas does not.

I agree on the NIL disadvantage, but Mike had some extraordinary talent early.  He went 0-2 in NCAA games during his tenure here in spite of the talent.  The chuck and duck style is fine when hitting shots, but I never saw a fall-back plan.  I wouldn't give him big NIL.

Did you watch those two games? Those were both "Goddamn fucking Arkansas we always meet up against some fucking team that is lights out from the three-point line." Remember the men's team losing to Butler who was a 10 seed in 2018? Both of those games are the same dumb fuck situation. Just bad luck. Yes, everybody wishes he would have done better but you can't just look at a box score or look at season results and make a judgment without having been there and being invested in it. Not saying you particularly, but a lot of whiners on x don't even follow the program. They just see the records and the box scores and whine their heads off. Pisses me off. This season was an obvious shit show and inevitable. The two prior years, so much fucking drama on the team. And as best as he tried, the teams were divided. The whole Taliah Scott situation is something that could be talked about in a long drawn out thread. She was a cancer in the locker room. And yet also a McDonald's all american. So what do you do? Sit your best player and lose every game or play your best player who all the other players hate but win games?

The question is, does that extra $500K someone gives to women's hoops take that same amount away from football, men's basketball, baseball, or softball?  If it does, we are better off staying in last place in women's basketball.  If not and someone wants to add to the current pile specifically for that sport, great let's do it.

That additional money is likely only going to take us from bottom tier to lower middle, where in men's basketball, baseball, or softball it could be the difference in a championship run.  You can make the same argument that the money would be similarly wasted going to football, but the difference is that you have probably 75K to 100K people who care about that sport versus maybe 10% of that if we're maxing out women's hoops. 

It truly does suck for Neighbors.  He's a better coach than he showed here for sure.  Hopefully his next situation will work out better for him.

I watched them.

He never seemed at all willing to make adjustments.

The NIL issue just amplified it.

It seems like if you're shaking the trees for a whale as a benefactor, you have to give them confidence that the coach can make it happen with the right players.  Mike doesn't foster that confidence.
